Hyunjin threw the diary on his desk and plopped onto his bed. He was tired from waking up so early on a Sunday and he had slept late finishing his work that previous night.
He closed his eyes, but sleep refused to overtake him. He kept thinking of Jeongin and how he had a crush on him. For how long? He wondered.
He would be lying if he said he didn't care that Jeongin liked him. He was sort of flattered, to tell the truth. Someone liked him—someone had looked at him and found him attractive.
He wondered if that was how Jisung felt. He had a teensy crush on him, probably, okay? But in the case of him and Jisung...
Jisung actually knew he existed. In fact, they are friends and he knew Hyunjin liked him. He just... didn't like him back.
Hyunjin sighed, wondering why the only people who liked him were the ones he didn't like back.
He couldn't help himself and reached for Jeongin's diary. He felt awful reading his secrets, but he was only human and couldn't help himself. It was only natural to get curious, right?
He flipped open to the first page.
It was dated to two years ago, the first day of school.
March 7
Today is the first day of the semester. I'm up bright and early because I was just too excited.
I have all the classes I want and Seungmin's going to be here soon.
Wish me luck! I hope there's some hotties...
He stopped reading. This was just a boring entry.
He skipped forward a huge chunk.
December 10
It's almost Christmas and vacation starts soon. There's a cute guy named Boo Seungkwan, but I don't like that his name starts with Seung like Seungmin does.
It's kind of weird if we're a couple then. People would call us names, no? Like Seungjeong... And then it'd sound like Seungmin and I are dating which is GROSS.
Hyunjin frowned and flipped to his sophomore year.
May 15
Final exams are killing me. I don't think I did well on my calculus exam, but I'm happy. Do you know why? It's because I got to see Hyunjin again.
His eyes widened. Since when was he a part of this diary? He flipped back a few pages, scanning for when his name first made an entrance.
After searching for a bit, he found the date: February 20. That was the end of freshman year.
February 20
Remember I told you about the guy I first saw in the bleachers? I found out his name today. His name is Hwang Hyunjin. Isn't it pretty?
He had a nice black umbrella. He looked so cute standing in the rain, waiting for the bus. I sort of wish he forgot his umbrella because then I could have offered to share mine.
I remember last week, he had a yellow minion umbrella. It looked hilarious. But it made him look even cuter with that one, and it was easier to spot him in the crowd of people with black umbrellas.
But he always looks so handsome no matter what, even if his hair is wet.
Hyunjin stopped reading. So Jeongin had been watching him... He felt like he had been stalked for over a year. And he had never even noticed.
He felt a shudder run through his spine. Should he read more? He didn't want to, knowing that he'd be even more creeped out, but he just had to know... He had to satisfy his curiosity.
October 11
It's almost time for midterms, but I don't mind studying. Because I know that Hyunjin comes to study in the library too.
He sits at a different table, far from mine, but it's the same one every day. He seems to study hard. He makes me want to study hard to be good enough for him.
I'm sure he wouldn't like someone with crappy grades.
Wrong, Hyunjin thought. He certainly couldn't care less when it came to people's grades. Like why are we using that to define someone?
He was studying Math—my worst subject.
I wish he could help me.
He scoffed. He really sucked at Math too.
Jisung came to talk to him too, I remember. I couldn't hear what they were saying, but he took a seat in front of him and blocked my view.
Hyunjin smiled at him... I wish he would smile at me instead. The way he looks at Jisung is the way I look at him—full of adoration.
Oh, so he knew Jisung... He blushed. October: that was around the time he started liking him.
February 13
It's been a year since I first saw Hyunjin. Today he was at the café reading a book. He had his hair tucked around his ear.
I remember he was wearing jeans and a sweater. He looked so comfortable.
Hyunjin felt officially creeped.
His smile is the prettiest thing in the world. If he could just smile at me once, I think I could die happy.
He shut the book. The last line bothered him to no end. Why did Jeongin have to say something like that?
To be continued...
