GOD'S FAVOURITE.

Much to his malcontent, last night's events played in Light's head like a bad record as he scribbled down name after name, and with their lack of a chance to discuss it at the breakfast table, he had been forced to wait like a sitting duck, chewing on his lip as he glanced over to the bed. He didn't feel any apprehension towards Y/N nor did he believe she'd let loose lips tell the tale of their charades last night, captivation for her reasons however continued to fog up his head like a bad song.

Why? Why had she not confronted him further? Was it fear? Did she simply think biting her tongue would guarantee he didn't write her name down? But none of his ideas, logical as they were didn't line up with the person he had come to know. She wasn't feebleminded and despite the meek-minded nature he had originally witnessed, a devilish minx had sprouted in its place.

So who was Y/N L/N? The quiet pawn who barely uttered a word to his family or a wolf in sheep's clothing? Above all else, Light couldn't stop himself from asking the same question over and over. Why hadn't he just written her name down? The obvious answer was that suspicion would dawn straight on him for pulling such a thing, not to mention after their little tennis match the supposed L was looking for any excuse to prove his theory.

It was the correct thought but not the one that stopped him from picking up his pen and disposing of his little pest, No, this was selfish reasoning. How could he use his newest puppet to his advantage if he didn't understand who she was?

Acquiring someone's trust was such a fickle thing

"Distracted?" Ryuk purred, breaking the silence that had accumulated across the bedroom. Teasing and taunting was all the Shinigami seemed to do these days and since Light was inherently stuck with it, he decided to view his new companion more like a pet than a partner. "I didn't think you were the type of boy to overthink about a girl, is somebody forming a crush?"

Of course, he couldn't focus right now, between Y/N and weighing up if Ryuzaki was a faux or the real Detective, plus his decision on whether or not to join the task force felt all too much like an unnecessary weight on his shoulders.

"Tch, don't be ridiculous." He hissed, slamming the pen down on top of his notebook. "What's the point of purifying my world if there's a moody brat running around who could blabber any minute? I need time to think about how to deal with this."

The monster cackled warmly, clear amusement on his already stretched grin from the human's snappy repertoire. "After your little stunt last night to keep her quiet, can you blame me for wondering?"

And Light abhorred the very idea that he had been caught in his moment of weakness, the very memory of it felt ever so bittersweet.

It was disgusting, a lust within that he had failed to keep in control. Kira didn't give into temptation, Kira wouldn't have been cornered and silenced by one singular girl, and that's all she was. There was nothing extraordinary about Y/N, It wasn't as if she had a special skill or noteworthy trait that he could utilize for his goals. Even when he had watched her crimes play out on the news he couldn't understand how such a girl could do something so sickening it had rocked the entire country. She was as average as a person could be, a pale imitation of the many women who had yearned for him with their stoic demeanors and stellar grades. So why did the pleased glint in his eye tell a different tale than the one he had weaved?

"Dammit!" A sudden bang brought attention towards him, and the back of his knuckles pillowed into the desk. Why had he been so focused on solving two problems that he could've solved with one stone? Y/N knew Ryuzaki, more importantly, she seemed to know more than he could about his new acquaintance.
