Chapter 21: Moonlit Night

Start from the beginning

''Are you upset with me?'' Lex asked, looking over at the woman who flinched at the question. Lex looked back at her fingers. ''I see. I... I'm sorry about my outburst at dinner, if that's what your mad about.'' Donna still didn't say anything to her. The white haired woman felt her heart beginning to speed up and her palms began to sweat.

''She's pretty...'' she heard the woman mutter in a slightly agitated tone.

''Pardon?'' Lex looked at the Dollmaker who continued to play with the snow in her pale hands.

''That maid, the one who was blushing at you. She's very pretty.''

''Well, I won't lie, she is attractive.'' Lex said, looking back at the snow.

''I see.'' the Dollmaker sigh and stopped playing with the snow and instead brought one of her cold hands up to her mutated eye. ''I guess I should have expected that type of answer.''

''Donna, what are you talking about?'' Lex inquired, looking back at the woman next to her.

''Outside of the castle, I saw her pull away from you and you were blushing...'' the woman heard Donna's breath hitch. ''I know what happened so there's no point in you denying it... she kissed you, didn't she?''

''What, no, she didn't.'' Lex was taken aback but Donna's words. ''You and Ms. Sofia interrupted her before she could do anything.''

Donna brought her knees up and hugged them. ''Can you be honest with me, Lex?''

''Donna, I'm always honest with you.''

''Unfiltered honesty. Not honesty that I want to hear.'' Donna clarified. Lex merely nodded anxiously. Whatever Donna was going to ask her, she knew it was nothing good. ''Are you attracted to that maid?''

''W-What kind of question is that?'' Lex blurted out with a stutter, her cheeks flaring in embarrassment. Donna took one look at the woman and looked as if she was about to burst into tears. But she kept her composure and stood up dusting the snow off the black pants she was wearing and began to walk towards the door.

The snowy haired woman immediately jumped up and rushed to the Dollmaker. ''Donna, wait! You didn't let me answer you question.''

''I already have an answer.'' Donna said in a quick, harsh tone. Not looking at the woman. Lex grabbed Donna's hand, giving it a squeeze and causing the woman to stop in her tracks. The white haired woman saw the woman spin around. Her blue eye went wide when she saw tears rolling down her cheek, her mutated eye a tinted red colour.

''I'm such an idiot...'' she sobbed quietly, wiping away her tears with her free hand in a futile attempt to compose herself. ''I mean... you liking me back, that's pretty stupid, right Lex?''

''Donna, what in the name of Mother Miranda are you taking about? I do like you. Yes, Ms. Eden is indeed attractive. But I can find someone attractive but also not be attracted to them.'' Lex explained, refusing to release Donna's hand even when the woman wouldn't grip back. The Dollmaker continued to try and stop her tears but her attempts were in vain. The snowy haired woman brought her free hand up to Donna's eye and used her thumb to wipe her tears away. The ravenette nuzzled her cheek into Lex's freezing hand and continued to cry softly. It hurt her heart to see Donna cry. All she could think of was trying to calm her down as much as she could.

Ever so slowly, Lex brought the crying woman into a tender embrace and still refused to release the Dollmaker's hand. Lex felt the Dollmaker bury her face into the crook of her neck, her tears soaking her skin. The snowy haired woman just held the woman and let her cry, feeling Donna's free hand clutching at her shirt.
