She tossed and turned, her eyes were sore and wanted desperately to rest but her mind wouldn't let her. As soon as Donna and Lex had arrived home, the veiled woman didn't speak to her and went right to the basement. The white haired woman rolled onto her back, staring at the ceiling as bright moonlight flooded her room. It felt a little strange laying in a bed she didn't have to share.
After a few minutes of staring blankly at her ceiling, she groaned and sat up, resting her arms on her knees. There was no way she was getting to sleep anytime soon. Today was just to chaotic and Donna hadn't spoken a single word to her ever since they had gotten back. Besides, there wasn't the usual warmth next to her that she had grown accustom to.
Tossing her covers aside, she reached for her eyepatch and got out of bed. By her window, she looked down at the village. There were a few lights on in some of the houses. Probably some friends drinking and hanging. Or, perhaps it was Ethan Winters.
She sighed and went to her door, slowly opening it and walking towards the bathroom. Since she wasn't able to sleep, she might as well find something to do to exhausted herself.
After splashing her face with cool water, she decided to go to the library. The library was a place the both her and Donna would frequent during the few days of peace they had after the incident with Winters. They'd spend hours just reading while Angie messed around the house but most times, the doll would join them. In the same way a baby or toddler would, Angie would seat herself on Donna or Lex's lap while they read. It would remind Lex of her sister at times.
After browsing a few of the spines of books on the shelves, she left the library and went downstairs. Perhaps she could talk to Donna, assuming she was still awake. There was the possibility that the Dollmaker was asleep, but she judging from the way she had been acting, she was most likely awake.
Silently, she went down the stairs but noticed that by the door Donna's boots weren't by the door. Lex's eyebrows furrowed and she approached the door, opening it and looking out into the cold winter air. There were no foot prints leading out the front door. Sure, it was snowing lightly but it had only begun to snow almost ten minutes ago so foot prints would still be there. Lex closed the door and went towards the elevator, which was resting on the first floor and not the basement.
Lex was confused. If the elevator was on the first floor, then either Donna or Angie were awake. Lex turned back to the front door and grabbed her jacket and boots, having a feeling that the Dollmaker was outside. She quickly opened the backdoor near the kitchen. Opening the door, she saw footprints leading towards the waterfall.
Lex pulled her coat over her shoulders even if she didn't react to cold temperatures anymore. Quickly, she followed the tracks to a tree not to far from the edge of a cliff. Very faintly, despite the crashing waterfall, she heard quiet humming. It was soft, and sweet and yet... a little sad.
Carefully, she peeked around the tree to see the Dollmaker playing with the pure white snow in her hands. Forming them into tiny balls and tossing them into the air. The moonlight shined brightly and illuminated her pale skin. The snowy haired woman felt her heart soar at the scene and let a smile cross her lips. The woman slowly approached and placed her jacket around Donna's shoulders. The woman in black jumped, quickly looking up at the smiling Lex Miroslava.
''You'll catch a cold if you don't wear your jacket, Donna.'' the Dollmaker gave her a small smile before look back at the edge of the cliff, her smile disappearing. Sensing something is obviously off, the snowy haired woman took a seat next to Donna, who continued to shyly played with the snow. ''Can't sleep?''
Donna nodded, not saying anything. Lex nodded along, dragging her finger absentmindedly through the snow. Donna didn't say a word to Lex which struck her as odd. Usually, Donna was quite talkative when she was around. Her raven coloured hair wasn't in its usual bun, instead, it hung freely down her back and over her shoulders. The white haired woman fidgeted with her fingers anxiously, biting her bottom lip.
