"Bambina, we need to leave in 20 minutes. Are you almost ready?" Carina asked. She was in the living room with Josie who was bouncing around in her jumperoo. The little girl was dressed in a light blue ruffled overall dress with a long sleeved white floral shirt underneath. Of course her mama had completed her outfit with a large bow atop of her head of curls. Maya was pretty certain that Josie's closet had more clothes than her's.

Maya walked out of their bedroom with puffy eyes. Josie had kept them up a lot of the night, but she had also been crying on and off all day from the thought of talking to her brother after all of these years. She offered her wife and daughter a small smile and then sniffled, again.

"It's going to be okay, bella," Carina said. She stood up and met Maya in the doorway of their bedroom. She pulled her wife to her chest and rubbed her back soothingly. "There's nothing to be worried or nervous about. If anything happens, we will be there to support you."

The captain lifted her deep blue eyes and nodded. She knew that her wife was right, but her anxiety still had a tight grip on her. Old Maya would have run from this situation, but Carina had changed her. She was going to do it, even if it was painful.

"Can you help me find an outfit?" Maya said in a small voice. "I don't- I don't know what to wear."

"Of course, my love, let's go have a look in your closet." Carina planted a kiss on her forehead and grabbed her hand and walked into their room. The brunette handed her Josie's frozen teething ring.

"What's this for?" Maya asked.

The doctor giggled softly, "Put it under your eyes to help with the puffiness." Maya clenched her teeth and checked herself out in the mirror. She hadn't realized how rough she looked from the lack of sleep and the excessive amount of crying.

"What about this?" Carina suggested. She held up a pair of black jeans and a simple lightweight v-neck t-shirt. It was June and the afternoons were getting increasingly warmer.

Maya nodded in agreement and began to get changed.

"Ow ow!" Carina added with a whistle in an attempt to lighten the mood. She would never get over how attractive her wife was.

The blonde blushed and whispered, "Oh, stop it." Her body language started to loosen up a little more once she realized that her wife still had her eyes glued to her.

"I can't help that I'm married to the sexiest fire captain in Seattle," Carina said, seductively.

Maya pulled on her shirt and added, "Well it shouldn't be too hard to win that title considering most of the captains are fifty year old white men." Carina laughed out loud and nodded her head in an exaggerated fashion.

"You look beautiful, bambina. Ready now?" Carina asked. Josie let out a loud yelp from the living room that signaled she was tired of being alone.

"Looks like Jojo is ready," Maya grinned. She quickly tied her shoes and offered Carina one final kiss before the family of three made their way out of the apartment.

The brother and sister had agreed to meet one another at the park across the street from the grocery store. Maya had regretted not telling him about Carina and Josie. She desperately hoped that he would be okay with them joining.

Maya saw him sitting alone at a nearby picnic table. She told Carina that she was going to approach him alone at first and then tell him about them. Carina agreed that it was the best decision in case things did not go well.

"Mase?" Maya said softly. She tapped him on the shoulder and was again greeted with a pair of eyes that looked identical to hers.

"Hi Maya," he responded.
