RyleeOlivia1DFirst Person POV
I felt his eyes on me as I left their home, a feeling that I've grown accustomed to. He tends to do it sometimes, he'll just stare at me and it makes me feel special, in a way. I get lost in my thoughts while thinking about tonight and what might happen.
As I'm thinking, footsteps speed closer to me, enough to snap me out of my thoughts. I have a feeling I know who it is, "I know that's you Camilo" I say with slight annoyance, but when I turned around, what I thought was my crush, was actually my best friend, Mirabel, his cousin. "Hey, Y/N," She says a little out of breath, but still able to keep her composure. Wait, is this reallt Mirabel? Then I started to think about it, Camilo can shapeshift, so it's probably him after all. How did I forget that he can do that?
"Haha, very funny Camilo, now stop pretending to be Mirabel," I commented with a somewhat bored tone. "No, Y/N, it's actually me. Camilo went back to his room after he was done ogling you" She said with a slight smirk while pointing her thumb in the direction of her house. I knew this was the real Mirabel because I made the mistake of telling her about my little crush on Camilo, even though I knew she would tease me relentlessly. Still walking, I sighed, "You know he doesn't like me like that, there's no way he does" I frowned, not wanting to talk about my pathetic crush on the shapeshifter.
We continued walking towards my home, as it came into view. "I've seen the way my cousin looks at you, that lingered stare that he has on you whenever you're anywhere near him. I promise you that he feels the same way, trust me" She ended with a grin. I really wanted to believe what she said. I mean, sure he stares sometimes, but it's not lingered or for the reason she'd like to believe. Heck, if he ever found out I liked him, he'd make fun of me for the rest of eternity, and I wouldn't know how to handle that, and I'm not about to find out. "Sorry, but you're wrong. He just likes making fun of me for his own pleasure, and It's getting really annoying" I said, knowing that his teasing isn't annoying me in the slightest way.
"Alright, but I'm telling you that he's a complete dope for you" She replied, walking me up to my door. "Anyway, I followed you for a reason. I wanted to make sure that you're still coming tonight. I don't think I'm able to do this on my own." She added, thinking of the last gifting ceremony, which was hers. Thinking back to that day, I was young but I'm able to remember that day easily. Everything was going according to plan, she was walking down the people-made isile and nothing seemed off. Then she went up to her door, she took a deep breath in and out, and reached up, put her hand on the handle. The door then started to fade away, into what seemed to be dust. That day affected her, majorly. It shaped her to be optimistic and upbeat, but on the inside hurt and forever longing wanting what she never got.
"Hey, you know I will never leave you by yourself, especially when you need me there. So duh, Im going to be there." I said seriously, with a positive tone. She smiled and pulled me into a tight hug. I smiled, knowing that I have such a great friend and that we do anything for each other if needed. She let go, "Thank you, Y/N, it means a lot to me. Now, if you don't mind I have to go help my family decorate, see you later!" Mirabel yelled the last part as she sped back in the direction of her house.
I smiled while entering my home, feeling more excited for tonight than earlier. As I look around my house, I see my mom cooking lunch and my dad sitting on a chair reading a book. "Hola, I'm back!" I told my parents, as they looked up and greeted me back from my deliveries. "Welcome back, Mija," my mom said, as she stopped what she was cooking to come to hug me. "I'm glad you made it home in one piece," My dad told me, with a chuckle from his seat in the other room. I stifled a laugh at his joke and looked back at my mom. "So how was it, did everything go smoothly?" She said, referring to my deliveries. "Yeah, pretty much. I'm going to go change for the ceremony tonight though, love you!" I responded, heading to my room to get ready for the event that was only hours away.
"Alright then, we can leave together once we're all ready," she said, getting back to her food. "Also, get back down here when you're done, you need to eat something!" she added loudly, so I'd hear her. I nodded at her, then dashed to my room.
A few hours later, I ate lunch and continued getting ready for the ceremony. I really wanted to look my best, not for any particular reason, but it was the first gifting in around 10 years, after all. By the time I was ready for the ceremony, it was time for us to leave. I was wearing the best dress I had, my mom made it for me a little while back, it was a simple yellow dress with little orange flowers along the seems of the dress.
"You ready, Y/N?" my mother look at me, "Yep, all ready," I replied, and opened the door to leave my parents and me out. We walk along with most of the rest of the town to the Madrigal's magical home. I saw children running and all I could hear was the excitement from all of the other people, mainly about what little Antonio's gift would be. Personally, no matter what he gets I'll be impressed and happy for him.
After walking for a few minutes, the magic house comes into view. I see Camilo greeting all the guests, butterflies fill my stomach. As we get closer and closer, he spots me. Instantly, he turns into me, "Well, if it isn't my favorite person, miss Y/N. I like the dress, is it new?" He complimented while trying to make small talk. I nodded, "Thank you. It's the first time I've worn it, actually." I finished with a blush dusting my cheeks. At this point, my parents already went inside and left me to talk with Camilo.
He changes back to himself, and I swear he looks better tonight than usual. His voice snaps me back to reality, "Nice, but you know you didn't have to try so hard just for me" He teased, making my nerves worse. I can't deal with his teasing right now, sometimes it's nice to hear, but not right now, I need to stay focused. My nerves have to be in check so that I'm able to be there for Mirabel if needed. "And, with that, I'll be taking my leave. Goodbye, Camilo, see you later" I told him, making him roll his eyes, and continue greeting the rest of their guests.
