Chapter 14: Everything Else

Start from the beginning

Flying down toward the village we weave through the statues and down by the beach. "Okay I'll admit. This is pretty cool." Astrid's voice breaks the comfortable silence.

I guide Whiplash to fly above Toothless and line myself with them hanging upside down. "Hey wanna fly with me?" I ask with a little smile while reaching my hand down.

"Sure." She shrugs grabbing my hand and Whiplash quickly spins to straighten herself and Astrid lands perfectly behind me. "It's amazing," she mumbles more to herself as she slides her hand over Whiplash's cold metal scales. "They're amazing." She tells the both of us and I smirk.

"We know." I flip my hair back and Astrid smacks her thick skull into my back. "Ow!" I exclaim.

"That's your fault." She told me and I gasp offended putting my hand over my chest.

"Give me a break." I groan as she laughs.

"So what now?" Astrid asks and we frown.

"We were going to run away." I tell her and she puts a hand on my arm causing me to flinch.

She looks over to Hiccup, "Hiccup your final exam is tomorrow." Astrid exclaims.

"What? Hiccup? You got chosen?" I quickly berate.

"Yeah if you were there you would've known." He eye rolled and I coughed trying not to think of the events leading to this moment. That I just wanted to forget.

"I got caught up with something." I say solemnly.

"Well you guys can't leave so what are you going to do? Hiccup you have to-" Astrid cuts herself off and then leans closer to Hiccup. "Kill a dragon." She whispers.

"Don't remind me." He mumbles when the dragons suddenly grew very anxious and looking around.

"Whiplash what's going on?" I ask before both dragons quickly dive hiding in fog. Weaving quickly between large stacks of rock many other dragons suddenly came from nowhere. "Get down!" Hiccup whispers and we all lean down near our dragons bodies.

"Looks like they're carrying in their kill." I tell them looking at all of the dead animal bodies being carried toward where we were going.

We dive deep into the fog all the dragon bodies in sync in the dive. Astrid screams lightly at the sudden fast diving towards the water.

A red light shines brightly though a hole formed from what looks to be a volcano. The dragons form a line of sorts while flying into a large open area. Large rock spikes hang from the roof looming threateningly as if they'd fall. Many ledges spurt from the sides of the wall some with covering which is where we landed; hiding as best as we could from the alarming amount of dragons. The source of red light lay in the middle of the room an eerie-ly thin cloud covering the most likely large hole that lay there. Dragon after dragon flies by dropping all the food they had collected down into the red abyss.

"Satisfying to know all of our food is being dropped into a hole." Hiccup grumbles.

"They're not eating any of it." Astrid points out as she scoots up closer from behind me.

"I wonder why." I whisper as a Groncle slowly flies over the large hole. The Groncle then opens his mouth and pukes the smallest fish I had ever seen into the abyss.

A low grumbling comes from the hole startling the small dragon scratching behind its ear. The dragon then begins to slowly fly away before in a blink of an eye the Groncle was lost to the mouth of a larger dragon. It's blue scales dimmed by the red light, large teeth sticking from under its jaw to show an underbite. The large dragon sinks back into the fog and momentarily I can feel my entire body shaking.
