With Eleanor and Louie asleep in my parent's bedroom, everyone else had gathered in the living room with an abundance of appetizers lining the coffee table. I grabbed a plate and filled it with meatballs and some chips and dip; knowing that Sienna had made both things. Emma had put together a nice meat tray and I was never one to turn down turkey and ham slices. Erin had an array of drinks in the kitchen, I opted for a cold Miller to help calm my nerves a bit.
Between the drinks and the music, everyone seemed to loosen up. I could still feel the thrill of excitement for everyone around me but I took it as encouragement. With the time winding down to just minutes before midnight, I could feel my pulse quickening again. Grabbing mine and Sienna's jacket and handing it to her. She looked at it weirdly.
"Walk out here with me for a minute. I want to show you something." Feeling eyes on me as I slipped on my shoes, I noticed the time on the television. With just a little bit more than a minute to go until the new year, I took Sienna's hand and guided her outside onto the back porch. The announcers were getting ready to start the countdown. Glaring at my family, letting them know I wanted to have a bit of privacy for this moment. Like that would happen though. They still moved to the door and window to look at us.
The snow had fallen steadily since this afternoon and now it was just a complete whiteout outside. I loved that, it just made it more magical. Standing in the middle of the open porch, I noticed the porch light caught her eyes looking at me in wonder. I gave her a reassuring smile, knowing she must have a racing mind right now. My heart was beating faster than I think it ever has before and I had been in some adrenaline-pumping situation before. Pushing the nerves aside because I wanted to do this before the clock struck midnight. From the sound, I had about forty-five seconds to give her my heartfelt speech.
"Sienna, baby. I can't even begin to explain how much you mean to me. It seems like these last six months have just gone by in a flash but in that time, I've opened up my heart and you and Eleanor have just filled that space with all of the love you two had in you. I'll be honest, I never expected for me to fall for you when I did but seeing you for the first time had me hooked. You were perfect to me and then Eleanor was just that bonus. After that, I have grown with you in many ways. You've taught me more about what life is all about, not just racing. Marriage and adding to the Blaney clan. And that's what I want, to officially make you and Eleanor my wife and daughter.
I bent down to one knee, not caring about the cold snow seeping through my jeans. Grabbing the ring box from my jacket pocket. Inside I heard the countdown hit ten seconds. Right on time.
"So Sienna, will you complete our family and marry me?"
Sienna
My breath caught in my throat. Ryan was doing this. Proposing marriage to me. I never had thought this is what he was planning, even if I had noticed how excited everyone was, even Eleanor had become giddy when I got home earlier. I just thought it was from the cake and food being brought in.
Not the point Sienna. Back to the man of your dreams who just professed his love for you and asked you to marry him. I smiled as wide as I could. I would not mess this up. "Yes, Ryan. A million times yes." My eyes filled with tears, as he stood up. I could see that he was the same. His eyes glistened too. Slipping on the beautiful rose gold ring, I wrapped my arms around his neck. His hands wound around my waist as he leaned in, placing his cold lips on mine. Off in the distance I, heard the words Happy New Year being screamed on the television and couldn't help but think of how perfect this all was.
