The air was perfect, not too hot and not too cold, comfortable enough for you to wear your best outfit.Your hair was styled, your makeup done precisely (you'd spent at least three hours in the mirror trying to perfect your appearance).
You'd worn the best outfit for a date you could find, perfect for wherever he wanted to take you.
You both sat opposite eachover in a fancy restaurant that you knew you could never afford; 'This guy must be loaded.' You thought to yourself, your eyes scanning down the menu - half the words you couldn't even understand.
Your date had ordered the most expensive drink for you both, smiling warmly to the waiters as he spoke.
He'd complimented you as soon as you approached him, quickly saying a simple 'You look wonderful.'
It almost felt relieving not to have to try and provoke compliments out of him, and yet slightly disappointing by you not having to seek his attention.
Annoying or not, chasing after someone was exciting. Or maybe it just depended on who you were chasing for compliments. He wasn't anything like Levi Ackerman: he was kind to you immediately, said 'hello' to people on the streets, smiled at you whenever he caught your eye, he was even taller than you (and by a lot, too)..
He seemed like 'the perfect guy ', a man that anyone in your league would want to marry at the drop of a hat.
But.. he wasn't Levi.
He didn't have that cold attitude towards everything, he wasn't pessimistic, he wasn't rude or uptight, and he certainly didn't insult you whenever he got the chance like your Captain always did.
Your chin rested against your fist.
Sure, Kaspar was good looking, he had a pretty face and the top of your head reached up to his shoulders, not to mention his good taste in style, so-..
why did you not feel anything towards him?
"Hey, Y/N.." He raised an eyebrow at you, his hand waving infront of your eyes to grab your attention, "Are you okay? You haven't said anything in a while."
You forced a small smile, "No, I'm fine. Just zoned out, that's all."
He smiled back, "Oh, okay. So as I was saying-"
Kaspar didn't ask you anything about yourself.
Levi often asked you random questions at completely random times, just curious on 'you'. He liked hearing you speak, not because he was so introverted, but purely because he was interested in what you had to say.
You sighed, looking down at your plate as you heard the man rant on.
Levi actually cared about your opinion.
Maybe you were just pulling at straws to make this guy seem worse than Levi, but.. when Levi was around, everyone else just seemed like nothing. You couldn't care less about anyone else.
You felt like an idiot for falling for a man like him: for falling for a man who was so 'unattainable'.
You carried on with your meal before he walked you all the way back to your barracks.
Kaspar politely kissed you on the cheek, giving you his details and telling you to contact him so that you could both meet again - you knew that you weren't going to.
You closed the door, slumping back against the wall behind you as your fingers dragged against your face.
You'd never felt more humiliated: more disappointed in yourself.
