KEZIA TISDOR
***************
She gripped her spoon tighter. There was something wrong with the princess. There was something off. Like the magic she had was trying to spill out of control.
What had Faven done?
But before Kezia could figure it out, she had left. She could not dispel the gloom in her heart.
"Kez?" the girl before her snapped her fingers. "Are you there?"
She blinked twice to see Camilla carrying a book. Seeing the title, she frowned. "We have history? First class?"
Camilla nodded. "Unfortunately. And you... you are even more unfortunate. It is Acarya Kellen for us this semester. He is known to have quite a temper. And... if you don't perform well, you might have to stay out of the class for the entire semester and not get any credits and repeat this subject again."
Kezia looked at her locker again. Human classes did not have this feature of lockers. Astras and Zorans did. Every class of theirs did.
"Do I get to keep anything here?" Kezia asked.
Camilla shook her head. "You don't have much space there. You can keep only the things you need for this class. Like," she grimaced at the history book she was holding. "This book and your quills and parchments."
Kezia whistled. "Nice." She shoved two of the three books she had collected from Camilla earlier and closed it.
Though the other two races frowned at her and spoke behind her, none dared to voice it in front of her. Perhaps what Kia did the earlier night has spread. In the class of forty, only twenty were there. While ten of them were busy talking, two girls spoke in hushed voices and then blushed. From what little she heard, they were gushing about Rafe. The rest were playing in the space in the front.
Just as she was about to sit next to Camilla, a boy slid in. Instead of hostility, he gave her a smile. "Ladon. Ladon Aurin."
She gave Camilla a side look. "Kezia Tisdor."
At this, a girl from the group of ten squealed and stuck her hand out. "Pay me! Pay me all!"
What exactly was happening here?
"Nerisa!" an Astra, who was next to her, exclaimed. "You are exhorting!"
"Well," she placed her hands over her hips and leant forward. "You should have placed your bets carefully then."
Kezia blinked. Let this not be what she thought it was.
"Nerisa?" Camilla's cold voice cut through whatever they were going to tell. "What's happening?"
The Zoran girl, Nerisa, had a huge smile. "I am happy. Ever since we heard about Kezia and how she ranks up, we were discussing how soon she will be given the chance to study with us. Hyde," she said, smacking the Astra on his head who exclaimed now, "Said after two more years and the others said never. I bet this semester."
