NOTE:

Trigger Warning

*

Jiang Cheng had dozed off while crying in his husband's robe, but a gentle caress woke him up. He propped himself up in the bed, blinking the fatigue away  –  the room was getting dark, as it was dusk.

- Wanyin... How are you, my little one?  –  Lan Xichen asked weakly.

- I almost lost you, Zewu-Jun...  -  he hardly managed to speak the words, his mouth was too dry.

- Our son?  –  Lan Xichen tried to move, but gave it up, wincing from the pain.

- He is fine. I am fine. It's you I worry about, my love.  -  Jiang Cheng leaned in and kissed his lips gently.

- Wanyin, I was so scared... I barely managed to get you out that night... The roof was going to fall in any minute... What were you doing under the covers, kitten?  –  Lan Huan smiled faintly.

- Ummm... I.... Uh, Zewu-Jun...  -  Jiang Wanyin was blushing and stuttering, avoiding his eyes.

- Nevermind. You can show me later.  –  Zewu-Jun laughed a little.  –  I am grateful to the Gods, because it most probably saved your life, my sweetest.

- Huan... I've missed you...

- I've missed you too, husband.  –  Lan Xichen lifted his hand and caressed his cheek. –  How long was I out?

- Two or three days... I ... I really don't know.

Zewu-Jun frowned. If he had been unconscious for such a long time, it meant that the wounds had been too deep to heal with magic.

- Zewu-Jun, it was so scary...  -  Jiang Cheng whispered, cuddling into him again.  –  I thought I was going to lose you. I can't lose you. I can't.

Lan Xichen felt his whole body shiver and tried to hug him as best as he could with one arm.

- And I had to deal with your awful brother who hates me... He took  you away from me...  And I wanted to be with you, Zewu-Jun...

- Oh, kitten...  -  Lan Huan caressed his hair.  –  Haven't you heard that it is not so easy to kill me? I am really curious to see who tried...  -  he mumbled, frowning.

The housekeeper knocked on the door and came in to feed the fire.

When she saw them talking, she exclaimed:

- Oh, Zewu-Jun! Master!  We were so worried!  –  she rushed to the bed to see him better and light a few more candles.

- Is my husband fed?  –  those were Lan Xichen's first words.

- I am sorry, Master.  –  she shook her head sadly.  -  Sandu Shengshou didn't want to eat without you. We tried, several times.

Jiang Cheng hid his face in his husband's clothes, blushing, listening.

- Bring some tea for me, and food for him. And call my brother.

- Yes, Master. Right away.

When she got out, Lan Huan tried to remove Jiang Wanyin from himself  –  he was clinging to him with all his might.

He murmured:

- Wanyin... Why? Think about our son, my love... You must be strong... You have lost so much weight, Wanyin...  -   he almost whimpered.

Jiang Cheng moved down in the bed, and whispered in his belly, hugging his waist:

- I can't breathe without you... I can't sleep without you... You are my life, Zewu-Jun...

- Too stupid.  -  Hanguang-Jun's voice echoed in the room.

- Wangji.  –  Lan Huan turned his head in the direction of the voice.  –  Refrain from such comments in the future, Brother. –  he frowned.

- Zewu-Jun.  –  Lan Zhan bowed deeply, but did not speak before spoken to again.

- Give me the general details. We will talk tomorrow morning  –  my husband needs his rest.  –  Lan Xichen said sternly.

- I understand.  –  Lan Wangji's face was a stone mask.  –  Two burning arrows, hitting the roof just over the Hánshì. The master bedroom is done for. The physician said that all three of you will be alright, but you need rest. Half the western wing is burned down, and will need renovation work, perhaps after New Year's. The heavy snowfall that night helped. Your burns will heal in time, the smoke was the worst of it. The Gods must really love your husband,  or perhaps your son   -  Sandu Shengshou escaped unscathed, but we were worried for you,  Brother.

- I need to see those arrows, Wangji.  –  Lan Huan growled.

- Naturally, Zewu-Jun.

- The  Jìngshì?  The Library?

- Saved. But it was a close call.

- I see. Good work, Wangji. Please rest. I will see you in the morning.  –  Lan Huan sighed.

Hanguang-Jun bowed and left.

Jiang Cheng was listening to his husband's deep voice, the Master's voice, and was purring in his embrace, feeling his body languorous and relaxed, warm and safe  –  he just wanted to sleep now. Getting some warm food into his body felt so soothing, and after helping Zewu-Jun to some food and hot tea too, he hugged him tight, knowing that his core will heal him in a day or two.

All was fine now. They could sleep now.
