Briars POV
I'm walking down the street. A whoosh of black smoke whipped past me. I looked behind me but it was already gone. That's weird. No one else seemed to notice it. I kept walking until I heard something. I turned around to be met with the dark smoke. It was in the shape of a human and it was staring at me. "What are you?" I asked, scared. It tilted its head in confusion. Its two white eyes stared into my soul. I took a step back and it took one forward. "What do you want?" I asked. It blinked a few times. I stared at in confusion. "Uh Briar?" I heard. I turned to see Cash. "What are you talking to?" She asked. I turned back to the figure but it was gone. "I... um... I don't know" I said. Cash walked up to me. "You look pale" she said. She touched my face with her hands. "You're burning. Lets get you back to the dorm" she said. I followed her.I woke up in my bed. I have the biggest headache. My eyes widened when I realized I was holding something. No, not something, someone. I looked up. Cash is playing on her phone, laying here while I hold her. "Cash?" I asked tiredly. She looked over. "Hey, you're awake" she brushed the hair out of my face. "What happened?" I asked. "I took you back to your dorm. You fell asleep pretty quickly but you wouldn't let me go so I stayed" she said. "Oh" I said. I don't remember a lot from yesterday. She turned so we were face to face. "Are you ok? You were acting weird when I found you" she said. I looked at her confused. "It was like you saw a ghost" she said. I rested my head in her chest. "I don't know what I saw. I don't want to think about it" I said. She put her hands around me and rubbed my back. "You don't have to think about it" she said. I smiled into her. I like it when she holds me. It feels nice. I looked up and kissed her jaw. "Thanks for bringing me back here" I said. "No problem" she smiled.
Its the next day. I remember what happened. What was that thing? Was I just day dreaming? I don't understand. "Hey girls?" I asked. They looked over. We're sitting on the couch. "Have you ever heard of a creature made of black smoke?" I asked. "Yeah, its the fears" Marcy said. "The fears?" I asked. "Its something that select schools do. Everyone has a fear spirit that comes out in October and disappears in November. This school doesn't do it though" Marcy said. "Why are you asking?" Jack asked. "I saw a creature made of black smoke. It just stared at me. Cash couldn't see it though" I said. "That's odd. Usually Fear spirits can be seen by everyone. Plus, they stay within school districts" Marcy said. "Usually-" Jack cut in. "There are rouge fear spirits, those ones don't stay within the school districts" Jack said. "How do you know that?" Abby asked. Jack shrugged. "I pay attention in class" She said. If it was a fear spirit than why couldn't Cash see it. Maybe it disappeared before she saw it. "If it is a fear spirit then you can either wait until November for it to go away or you can face your fear" Marcy said. "I wish I knew what it was" I said. What am I afraid of?
"Hey, Cash is throwing another party. Are you coming?" Jack asked. "I guess" I said. I'm mostly coming to make sure Cash doesn't cheat on me. I'm not in a party mood right now.
We're here. I got a drink and went to the back. There are people swimming and dancing. Everyone's drunk. I don't know where Cash is. I looked around the yard and then I saw it. Two glowing white eyes staring at me. My breathing picked up. I walked inside and searched around for Cash. If that thing gets to me then I might pass out. "Cash" I walked up to her. She turned to face me. "Hey, are you ok?" Her face turned to concern. "Come with me" I grabbed her hand and took her upstairs. I pulled her into an empty bedroom and pushed her against the wall, shutting the door. "What are you doing?" She asked. I kissed her. She was hesitant but kissed back. I slipped my tongue in her mouth and we started making out. I need a distraction from that thing downstairs. I heard something and pulled back from Cash. We both looked at the now open door. Someone took a picture of us. "Hey guys! Cash is a bottom!" The kid yelled. He ran off. I looked back at Cash. "I'm sorry" I backed away from her. "No, don't be sorry. Its not your fault" she said. "Yes it is. I shouldn't have taken you in here. I just- I cant- I-" I couldn't find the words. She got concerned. "You're scaring me" she said. "Its here" I said. "What's here?" She asked. I turned around and grabbed at my hair. My head aches. I cant think straight. I looked up. Its right in front of me. Its white eyes staring into my blue ones. I backed up and bumped into Cash. She held my waist. I looked up at her. "Are you ok?" She asked. Her voice is fading. My eyes are getting blurry. My heart is pounding. My breathing is out of control. Before I knew it everything was black.
I woke up with Cash's arm around me. My head hurts. I turned to face her. She's asleep. Her soft breathing is calming to listen to. Her eyes slowly fluttered open. "Good morning" she said. I smiled. "Morning" I said. "How are you feeling?" She asked. "I'm fine" I said. She put her hand on the side of my face and rubbed my temple. "That feels nice" I said. She smiled. I looked around. "Where are we?" I asked. "At my party house. You passed out and I didn't want you to get hurt" she said. "I'm sorry. I've been seeing things" I said. "Its alright" she said. She's smiling at me. "What?" I asked. She opened her mouth to speak but didn't. We stared into each others eyes for a moment. "I love you" she said. I stared at her for a moment more. "I love you too" I smiled. She looked relieved when I said that. I softly kissed her. "Have you seen our photo?" She asked. I groaned. "Its trending" she smirked. I turned over to grab my phone off the nightstand. I grabbed my phone but stopped. The black smoke figure was there. We stared at each other for a second before it disappeared. I pulled my phone of the nightstand and opened Instagram. "Shit" I said. There's a photo of me and Cash making out. My sister saw it. Lucky for me, Parry wont tell. Parry doesn't like to spread drama. Cash laughed looking at the photo. "I wouldn't mind doing that again, but maybe we should be sober next time" she said. I looked at her. "That's a good idea" I said. Was that my fear? Was telling Cash I loved her my fear? I guess it was. As long as that thing is gone, I'm ok. I checked my messages. Parry is asking who the girl in the photo is. I didn't answer and deleted the message. I don't want to talk to my family right now. I put my phone down. Cash got up and started changing. I guess she stays here sometimes. "You can have some of my clothes" she said. "Ok" I said.
I walked into my dorm. "Oh look whos back. The trending girl" Marcy said. "Shut up" I said. "Did you fuck Cash? Did she break up with you after?" Marcy asked. I rolled my eyes. "No and no" I said. "Are you wearing Cash's hoodie?" Abby asked. I blushed. "Maybe" I said. "You're a good influence on her" Jack said. "You think?" I asked. She nodded. I hope that I can make Cash a better person. I think I'm doing good already.
