eighty: The Island Room.

                                    

                                          
     



                          
     THE NEXT morning, the group were out on the front patio and Kai was smoking a cigarette as he was sitting with JJ who's leaning against him while the others talked about the fight from last night's bonfire. He's surprised to see Sarah walk up to the door and looksd around as the others look over to her.
                          
"Well, hello, princess." JJ greeted her as Sarah walks over to them. "What's up?" Kie greeted her next. "Shouldn't you be on Figure Eight with your little group of polo players? Or did you break up with Topper?" John B asks as Sarah looks at him. "We're just friends." She says.
                          
"Oh, he's just a friend. You have a lot of friends, Sarah Cameron." John B says as she walks off then she turned around. "Yeah, and it seems like you've got some of your own too." She says as Kai looks at JJ. "Oh, no, mom and dad are fighting." He whispers but they all hear him as John B put the foot rest of the couch chair down. "Alright, what are you doing here?" He asked and Sarah merely sighed.
                          
"I'm here for Pope." She looks at the boy and he looks up at her, surprised. "I think I found the island room." She says making them all sit up and get serious, taken back.
                          
"Guys, listen to this." Pope says as they're in the car on the way to Sarah's. "The diary says the cross holds the most holy relic in all of Christendom, the Garment of the Savior." He read aloud to the other five. "So wait, he's saying there's a holy garment inside the cross?" Kie asked, glancing at JJ and Kai.
                          
"Yeah. It says the garment is capable of healing the sick from any malady." Pope read as Kai looked at the papers in the boy's hand. "Mmm, yeah. If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well." JJ says as Kai gave a grimace at the boy and they all looked at him confused. "What? I went to Sunday school." JJ tells his boyfriend who just rolled his eyes.
                          
"Well, that explains why Limbrey would want the cross so bad. She thinks it can heal her." Pope tells them as Kai furrows his brows. "What else doe sit say?" He peaks at the papers and Pope glanced at him. "Many feel that we have sinned to steal such a sacred thing, and God will strike His vengeance on us." Pope read as Kai looks around at the others. 
                          
"Thing is, God did have His vengeance." Kie tells them and Pope looks at her. "He sent a hurricane to sink the ship. Only Denmark survived." Pope says and Kai nods. "That's the thing, I don't believe in God so I don't think it was God's work or whatever, it was just pure karma since they stole the cross." He says making them look at him. "What? Everyone has their own beliefs... I'm atheist, you guys know that." He said as he shrugs his shoulders.
                          
As they arrive to the house, they all piled out and headed inside with Sarah leading the way to this Island Room they were looking for. "This place still freaks me out." John B says quietly. "Yeah, same." JJ said before they follow Sarah and Pope into the room. "Pope, look." Sarah says and Pope slowly walks now, looking around the whole room.
                          
"Woah! You've got to be kidding me."
                          
"Yeah. I know, right? It's the island room." 
                          
As the others walk in, they look around, shocked. "It's been here this whole time." Sarah chuckled softly. "No freaking way." John B says in disbelief as Kai looks at JJ, grabbing his hand. "This definitely means something." JJ says as they all walk around the room to explore. "This is incredible. Yo, this is a map of the whole island." John B tells the others.
                          
"Yeah, John B, I think you're right because this is Rixon's right here." JJ pointed and Kai nods. "And then there's the lighthouse..." The dark haired boy says, pointing. "Guys, look, Parcel 9 and the well." Kie said as she touched the wall, looking to the boys. "So, if that's Parcel 9, and then if that's Rixon's," John B said as he pointed towards the two sides of the walls.
                          
"Then that's gotta be the surf base at Mase." John B says as JJ and Kai walk over as well. "Right. And look. Pope, come here." Kai says and Pope walks over to them. "This is Denmark's handwriting for sure." Kai said as he held up the paper, pointing to the writing on the wall. "The drawings, they match up." Pope says and smiled. "Holy shit." John B says.
                          
"Denmark, you genius! These are all his drawings. He... he painted this entire room." Pope said as he looks around. "Yeah, question is why. What's he trying to tell us?" Kie asked as she grazed her fingers along the wall. "It's gotta have something to do with the key. Right? Right?" JJ asked, looking at the others then at Kai standing beside him.
                          
"I would assume so, J... but what?" Kai asked as he looks around. "How did you know to uncover this?" John B asked Sarah. "I didn't. It was like this when I got home." She replied, looking around. "What?" JJ and Kai say at the same time making them look at one another. "Okay, then who did it?" Kie asked her.
                          
"I don't know."
                          
"The freaks." The group of six all gasp and turn around to Wheezie walking in. "Wheeze!" Sarah exclaims. "Wait, what freaks are we talking about, Wheeze?" JJ asked her before the others could. "Uh... that sick lady and her attack dog." Limbrey and Renfield. "They... they ahowed up last night, and they wanted to talk to Rafe." She says. "Wait. Pale blond lady?" JJ asked, turning towards the younger teen. 
                          
She nods. "Did she have crutches?" Kai asked next and she nods again, "uh-huh." She says. "It's gotta be Limbrey." Pope says as John B steps foward. "What happened?" He asked her. "Well, at first, they searched the whole house looking for something, and then Rafe told me to go upstairs. But I didn't wanna miss out, so I listened through the grate." She said before telling them all they said.
                          
Even mentioned that they peeled off all the wallpaper. "And then they were talking about getting across the sand flamingo." Wheezie says and Kai furrows his brows. "That's code. Code for something." JJ nods and Kai scoffs, trying not to laugh. "Are you sure they didn't say The Cross of Santo Damingo?" He asks.
                          
Wheezie looks at him, "yeah, that's it and they were talking about angels." She nods. "A lot of angel talk. I don't know." She added and Kai looks at the others. "Angels?" John B says. "Guys, Denmark's famous last words. He buried the real treasure at the foot of the angel." He tells them as John B snaps his fingers and then does finger guns at him. 
                          
"They're looking for an angel. We have to find the angel in the room." Pope said then they all spread out, "there's a church over here." Sarah said as she walks over to it. "Yeah, check the church." John B says, pointing.
                          
As they all clamour over one another, Wheezie tries to get their attention by asking what they're looking for as Kai approached the walk with the tree. He leans closer, noticing a dark spot on the tree that happened to be in the same of a key. "Hey! Hey! Guys, I think I found something." Kai shouted to the others.
                          
"This big ass tree... You guys remember what it's called?" He turned to them as they walk up to him. "Angel Oak." Pope says with wide eyes before looking at him. "And look right there. The keyhole." Kai says, pointing at it.
                          
"That means the cross is buried at the foot of the angel." Pope says as he looks at Kai who's nodding with a small smile. "Wow. That must be where he put it. That must be where they are right now! We have to go!" Pope said and turned around to leave the room.
                          
"Wow, my boyfriend is Sherlock Holmes!" JJ said as he put his arm around Kai's shoulders and lead them both of the room. "I-It wasn't a big deal..." Kai simply says, chuckling as they rush down the hall. "It was. You figured it out. My little genius."
