Elena refused to believe that all that pain, all that suffering, she had experienced had all been for nothing. It couldn't have been if not for it she wouldn't have been doing what she's doing now. She wouldn't have been defiling her brain for the memory of the true chat she had with Esther because the one that currently resides in her memory, where Esther told her of a plan that would rid the world of the originals, had been false. She had known the moment she had insecurities of Elijah's love - if she could even call it that.
Getting nowhere, she groans and throws herself off the bed. She didn't want to approach him. It had been three days since they had argued - since she told him he betrayed her trust. Never the less she found herself knocking on his door.
He opens the door with a confused look on his face. She noticed he wasn't wearing a suit today. Instead, he wore casual clothes - Elena wasn't aware that he had any - and she had to admit that he looked good in them. She forces herself to get back to the topic at hand. She clears her throat as he continues to stand at his doorway, waiting for her to speak.
"I need your help," Elena informs.
Elijah steps out of the doorway, inviting her into his room. Hesitantly, she enters, taking a seat on the edge of his bed.
"I need you to," She pauses as she wondered if Esther could hear her.
It's very likely that Esther had been - and still is - spying on them, so there was only one way she could do this. Elena stood up and walked over to Elijah, slowly placing a kiss on his cheek.
'You need to go through my head, Esther has replaced a conversation we had with a false one. Don't speak of this, Esther is watching.'
The words play in Elijah's mind, stopping when Elena's lips leave his cheek.
"I'm sorry for what I said," Elena said.
He knew it was a lie and it hurt. If she was giving him a role to play, he would play it.
"All is forgiven," He says as he takes her head and places a kiss on it.
A way he could easily go into her mind without anyone noticing. Flashes of Elena's memories flooded his mind - memories of her kills - and he immediately pulled out. He knows she didn't want him to see her in that way. He takes her hand in his.
'Think of that day, I need to get closer.' His voice booms in her mind.
"I've missed you," She says, placing her forehead on his.
"And I you," He means it.
He's taken to the moment they had almost kissed. Suddenly there's a fog surrounding everything, powerful magic- no doubt cast by Esther. It took a lot out of him, fighting this magic, but it paid off. The spell fogging her memory broke and he was able to see the moment play out.
There was a knock at the door, and it had been Jeremy knocking. Harsh words were said as Jeremy tried to take Elena's life, that's when Esther had appeared. Elena had followed her to a cabin that they both entered. Elijah watched silently as Esther and Elena discussed Klaus, his heart ached when Elena admitted that she had feelings for Klaus. His frown deepened as his mother placed doubts about him in Elena's mind.
Confusion overtook him as he heard the last words of Elena and Esther's conversation, it was like she had been compelled. That's when it became clear to him - Elena had been compelled by some sort of magic - and they needed to break the magic as soon as possible. He removes his forehead from hers and places a kiss on her hand.
'What Esther said about you being a replacement for Tatia wasn't true. I love you for you.' His voice whispers inside of her head.
"Goodnight Elena," He says.
"Goodnight Elijah," Elena responds, a smile appearing on her face.
It had been the first time he had told her he loved her.
Elena walked out of Elijah's room closing the door, only to be startled. Klaus had been leaning against the wall, no doubt listening to everything.
"My doppelganger and my brother," Klaus says faking consideration.
"I'm not your anything," Elena says any trace of her smile had completely disappeared.
"Ah, yes you're independent now, how could I forget?" Klaus says pushing himself off the wall.
Elena attempts to walk away but he quickly steps in front of her.
"I'm sorry," Klaus says in a hushed voice.
"What?" Elena asks, thinking she misheard him.
It wasn't Klaus's style to apologize to anyone - not even his siblings - but here he was apologizing to Elena.
"I'm sorry, for everything I've done to you," Klaus says before walking away, not allowing her to respond.
He knew it was a bad idea to fall for Petrova women, but Elena was different. In his eyes, she is special, which is why he had tortured her in the way he had. It was the sick and twisted way he showed love. He had never known how to love, never been taught to, so he decided to push her away. He never knew it could hurt this bad.
Confusion, anger, and hate flooded her mind as she made her way to her room. How could he just apologize to her and leave without another word? This wasn't the Klaus she knew. It brought up feelings in her that she thought had gone away when she had fallen for Elijah. As if dealing with Esther and her spells wasn't complicated enough.
Authors note: Hey everyone! As promised a new chapter is out, sorry for the wait. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this chapter.
