"WHAT DO YOU MEAN SHE IS GONE?!" Fitz yelled.
Flori had only said the two words, 'Sophie's gone' and Fitz had already started screaming.
"Sophie is gone, and there is nothing you can do about it. She's safe and doesn't want to be found." Sandor replied calmly. "Especially not by you." He added a look of disgust on his face.
Grady and Edaline had gathered everyone at Havenfield to tell them about Sophie's disappearance. And by everyone, they meant the council, the Blackswan collective, Tam, Linh, the Vackers, Dex, Wylie, Maruca, Marella and etcetera. Even Glimmer was there.
Sandor and Flori let the words sink in for a moment, then the room was in chaos.
Everyone was shouting, except for glimmer, the Song twins, Grady, Edaline, the council and the bodyguards.
After a while, the collective seemed to realize that screaming would not help to find Sophie, and tried calling the room to order but to no avail.
Councillor Noland noticed this, and cupped his hands around his mouth, letting out a shrill sound. It sounded like the screech of car tires braking abruptly on the road or the sounds of someone dragging their nails down a blackboard. Everyone winced and covered their ears, but fell silent.
Unfortunately, the silence was broken by the king of tempers, Fitz.
"How could Sophie disappear and not tell me anything?"
"We are cognates." Everyone else grumbled together with him.
Fitz huffed but continued his brooding.
"Does he do this all the time?" Glimmer whispered not so discreetly.
Tan muttered something that sounded a lot like "A lot more times that I would ever want to hear in my whole life."
Linh bit back her laugh. She couldn't help but feel worried for Sophie. She knew that Sophie could take care of herself but if she needed help, she had no one to call.
Linh just wished that Sophie had told Tam and her where she was going, so that she could help her, like how she helped her and Tam by giving them a place to stay and showing them love.
Mr Forkle knew that he had made a mistake. He knew it, and he regretted it.
She should never have let his moonlark go and said all those mean things. He had a vague idea of where Sophie would go but he just didn't want to tell the others and send them into a blind flurry of panic.
Mr Forkle wanted to apologise so badly but he knew he would never have the chance to, and he regretted it.
Wylie was a little sad that Sophie had left. It felt like she was the only one who actually understood what it was like to be different. She was the Blackswan's project and he was the boy whose father's mind was broken and the boy whose mother had died. They had become quite close and Wylie loved Sophie like a sister.
But now, suddenly, Wylie felt alone again, and despite knowing everything that had happened, he couldn't help but feel a little selfish, and a little angry at Sophie.
Della Vacker didn't want to believe Sandor when he said that Sophie had left, but she had to. Honestly, she couldn't blame Sophie.
After learning what her children had said to Sophie, she had made them sit on their sorry asses and gave them a 4 hour long lecture, Grizel and Woltzer. They had gotten up, wincing.
Della wanted Sophie to know that she was very sorry for her children's actions and apologize, but it was too late.
Sophie, the girl that could right all the wrongs.
Sophie, the girl who she loved like her daughter.
And now, Sophie, the girl who ran away from her family and friends because they had hurt her deeply.
Glimmer Evans wasn't surprised when they announced Sophie had left.
The Neverseen had already told her.
Sorry my chapters are so short and so slow, I'm not very good at this. Constructive criticism is appreciated. Thank you for reading and stay safe!
