Night Out

1 year later

I had really grown to like Shay and Michael loved her. She understood how I didn't want people to walk in and out of my sons life. She would even watch him if I had class and Kelly was busy or picked up a shift.

I was so busy putting my books away as my literature class had just ended, that I didn't realize someone was standing next to my desk.

I look up when I hear them clear their throat. "Oh hey Stacy. Sorry I didn't realize you were standing there. What's up?"

"Well since today is the last day of this semester I was wondering if you wanted to go out to a bar tonight?"

I roll my eyes. "Stacy you know that's not my scene."

"I know but this place is real chill and laid back. It never gets too crazy. I promise."

I sat and thought about it. Kelly's mom had Michael for the next couple days. So what could it hurt? I finally gave in. "Alright. I guess."

Stacey's eyes widen as she was shocked "What? Really?" She was trying to contain her excitement as I had always turned her down before.

"Just text me the address and I'll meet you there."

"I will! Oh also Beth and Kate are going too." I nodded my head and then make my way out of the classroom.

I walk into the house I was sharing with my mother, dropping my bags at the door. I can smell something cooking so I make my way into the kitchen.

I walk in and see my mother was making some cookies. "Hey mom."

"Hey sweetheart. How was your last day of classes?" My mom had gotten the house in the divorce and my dad had to pay her alimony. We hadn't seen him since the day they signed the papers. Which both of us were okay with.

"It was fine." I take a seat at our island and grab an apple out of the fruit bowl.

My mom raises an eyebrow as she says "Just fine?"

"Happy this semester is over but also scared since my law classes will be starting soon."

"Taylor you will be just fine. You're smart and work very hard. I couldn't be prouder of you." My mother pauses for a second. I watch as she swallows the lump in her throat. "Nick would be so proud of the person you have become."

Damn this women.

I blink back a couple tears. "Thanks mom."

"You're welcome sweetheart. Now what would you like for dinner?"

I shift a little uncomfortable because I didn't know how my mom would react to me going out. "Well actually some of my classmates invited me out for a couple drinks."

I could see the wrinkles form at the corners of my mothers smile. "That's wonderful Taylor. You need to go and have some fun."

"I will thanks mom." I hop down off my seat and head upstairs to change and get ready. Trying to not be nervous but it was hard.

I stood in front of my full length mirror smoothing out my shirt for the 100th time. I had paired a simple blue v-neck shirt with a pair of dark wash jeans and a pair of black ankle boots. I slip on my black cardigan before running my hands over my hair, I had straightened it for the first time since high school. I kept my makeup very natural looking.

I sigh as I take one last look in my mirror before I head downstairs to say goodbye to my mom.

"I'm leaving mom."
