Her apartment was a thirty-minute run away from the park. So, she decided to warm up for the first ten minutes, walking down Sixth Avenue at a leisurely pace with her earphones in, trying to pick a playlist to run to on her phone.

For the most part, her playlists consisted of songs her parents had introduced her to from their younger years. Artists like Queen and Elton John and Carole King. Some went even further back to the likes of Frank Sinatra and Édith Piaf.

But, whenever she worked out, she liked to listen to more upbeat stuff to hype her up. And while Fleetwood Mac's Dreams was as iconic as a song could get, it didn't exactly scream HEY, I'M TRYING TO KILL A HEADACHE BY RUNNING FOR AN HOUR OR LONGER!

But AC/DC's Thunderstruck certainly did. Aaaannnnd... maybe some Lady Gaga. Definitely some Britney Spears. And yeah, Taylor's Swift's Bad Blood. And We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together. And possible 22. And maybe Blank Space. Definitely Shake It Off.

It was a pretty big playlist. But yeah, the blonde singer had some absolute bangers that may or may not have motivated Kaia into finishing her every run. Well, Shakira certainly helped, along with some older tracks from Led Zeppelin and The Bee Gees.

She was going to go with her usual album but as she stopped at a red light and scrolled through her playlist, she clicked on the album with the blonde's face and found her thumb hovering over the name of the first song.

Welcome To New York

Kaia smiled to herself as she crossed the street. It seemed fitting, didn't it? She turned off the shuffle button and locked her phone, slipping it into the pack around her waist before finally starting her jog.

She kept her pace easy, looking around her to make sure she didn't accidentally get run over all the way until she had reached the park about twenty-five minutes later.

The whole time, her mind was replaying the events of the previous night. As Taylor's sang in the background, telling her to Shake It Off, she was also belting out the wrong words to The Eye of the Tiger. Kaia had made sure to point it out and Taylor had childishly stuck her tongue out.

Frankly, she couldn't understand why the media was making her out to be such a villain when she was just so... soft. She couldn't find any other way to describe it, but despite her dark outfit and the heavy eye make-up, she still had a grin that reminded Kaia of summer days in her mother's home country, sitting on her grandmother's old swing in the garden and eating her fair share of figs and apricots. It was sweet and seemed to brighten up the whole room.

With a little smirk on her face, she shook her head, trying to focus on her breathing to avoid having a bad run that ended up with her puking her guts out.

Halfway through, as Taylor had begun singing about her wildest dreams, Kaia could feel a burn in her calves that only prompted her to push herself further. Keeping track of her breathing, she knew she could afford to pick up the pace even as her heart hammered harshly in her chest.

It wasn't until she was on the last song from the album that her phone started ringing. She slowed down just enough to be able to focus on whoever was calling, pressing the button on her earphones to respond without bothering to check the caller ID. Whoever it was would have to deal with her being breathless.

"Alooo," She breathed out, her voice wavering as her feet hit the pavement steadily.

"You look like you're in dire need of some coffee!"

Kaia's pace slowed down even more until she was just barely running. She furrowed her eyebrows, trying to catch her breath.

The voice on the other end of the line sounded raspy and deeper than usual but there was no denying the fact that it was definitely Taylor's voice. She had just spent the last fifty minutes listening to her album. She knew her voice.
