Bruce's POV

When we parked at the cinema, a teenage couple caught my eye. They had just walked out of the building and the girl was sitting on the boy's car. He went round the car and brought her a flower. A lily, if my eyes saw correctly. She smiled the biggest smiled I've ever seen and hugged him.

I don't even understand why I'm looking at them. It's not like I can tell Maddie and she'll accept. She's already going through too much. I looked back at Maddie to see that she was talking.

"Are you my secret admirer?" I heard her ask. Wait, what? Where did that come from? She shook her head and laughed a fake laugh.

"What am I saying? It can't be you. If it was, you would have told me," she said to herself. He words hit me hard.

It can't be me.

What does that mean? Does she think she'll never like me? I did tell her that not all people want their crush to know how they feel. But that was a joke. Right?

If it was, you would have told me.

She's right. I'm a straight forward kind of person. If I did like her, which I do, I would have already told her. God, what is wrong with me? Is this how hopeless romantics feel like every waking day?

Yes, you're living proof. I thought. That's it! Let's first fix her problems, and be there for her like the best friend you are. Try to make her and Penny friends again, and find Dexton.

"Right," I simply said.

"I didn't offend you, right?" She asked. Her hazel eyes shone a little green from the light. I smiled and shook my head.

"I'm fine. Wanna go and watch the movie with me?"

"Really!" Maddie smiled. Before I could answer, my phone rang for the center consol. We both looked at the screen and I realized that Penny was calling.

I grabbed the phone and put it on silent. Penny and I were supposed to meet while Maddie and Drew were watching their movie. I completely forgot.

"Why is she calling you?" I turned and saw Maddie looking out the windshield. "I want the truth."

"We were supposed to meet. She's helping me study." Well, that was half true. We were going to meet, just for the wrong reason. Penny did want to be friends with Maddie again. But she was afraid that Maddie wouldn't want too.

"I could drop you at her place. I have to go home anyway," Maddie said. She got out of the car, and came to my side. She opened the door and told me to get out.

"I'll drive you. I'm not going to kill you, relax," Maddie tapped my shoulder and sat in the driver's seat. I went round and sat back in. Maddie drove without a single sound coming out of her mouth. The silence was deafening. I would kill to hear her voice, her laugh, have a conversation with her.

"What's the real reason you're meeting with Penny?" She finally said. Not this kind of conversation though. I looked out my window and thought of a suitable reason for her.

"Like I said, we're going to study."

"Do you like her?" Maddie took a quick look at me.

"No! God no. I just... give me a few weeks. Please?" Maddie turned to Penny's street but parked four houses behind. She killed the engine and sighed.
