Conner's pov.

Conner nervously walked the hospital hallway, running his hands through his hair. His breathing came in short ragged breaths, and he couldn't hold still.

Was it his fault?

That question raced through his mind. The second Y/N passed out, it felt like Conner's word had tumbled apart. She had looked so...lifeless. And Conner couldn't bare that.

Was it his fault? Did he cause that? Was he the reason they were at the hospital right now, the reason the doctors were all speaking in hushed voices?

"You don't look so good," A voice said. Conner whipped around to see Jack, casually standing with his hands in his pockets.

"Is she okay?" Conner immediately asked. He would have been in her room, watching her, staying with her, but it was too painful watching her too pale body lying motionless.

"Yeah," Jack said slowly. Too slowly. He was obviously holding back information.

"What? Tell me," Conner pleaded, running a hand through his already disheveled hair.

Jack sighed, sitting on a bench that was pushed up against the wall. He motioned for Conner to do the same. When Conner did sit, the bench felt hard and cold.

Cold.

It was silent for a moment, until Conner was about to pull out all his hair if Jack didn't speak.

Finally, after an eternity, Jack spoke. "They don't know. They don't know what happened, if it will happen again, how to stop it. They don't know. As far as they can tell, she seemed healthy. Strong vitals. Steady breathing. But they don't know what's wrong. Why she passed out. They can't tell."

He said it all in one breath.

And Conner felt like he couldn't breathe.

They don't know.

The words rang in his ears. They don't know. As in, they don't know what caused her attack. As in, the don't know if it could happen again.

Yes, Conner couldn't breathe.

He couldn't hear, either.

He remained like this for several moments, until he heard two words that changed everything.

"She's awake."

He didn't know who said them, but it was enough to shatter his world again. He go I d himself stumbling down the hall towards her room.

Almost there.

Your pov.

There were far too many bright lights. Far too many colors. Far too many people you didn't recognize. If it hadn't been for the pain, you would've thought you were still asleep.

You wished you were asleep.

You screamed. Over and over. Your voice became hoarse, but you couldn't bring yourself to stop. Who were these people? What were they doing? Why did her head hurt so much? Why were there so many people?

Too many.

You cried, too. An intense pain throbbed in your head, your arm, your knees. Everywhere. But it was worse in your head, a constant POUND that felt like it was shattering your mind. And maybe it was, because noise and color ad sight merged together, leaving only pain.

You felt like you were dead, but you knew you weren't. You were awake, but it was a different reality in which you had awoken to. One were sound didn't make sense. One were nobody was really human. One where nothing, nothing, looked familiar.

Until one boy broke through it all.

Conner stood by a door. It was impossible to tell which door it was or where it led. But that didn't matter to you. All that mattered was the fact that he was walking towards you. That his bright blue eyes had tears in them and his messy hair stuck out in all directions.

You stared at him. He was real. That was undeniable. He was calm, real, when nothing else was.

He reached you, carefully sitting on the bed you layed on.

He took his hands in yours, talked. You couldn't hear what he said. But his lips moved, and his thumbs made slow circles on the back of your hands. Soothing circles. Promising everything would be okay.

You closed your eyes. He was real. He would always be real. You let that small, tiny thought calm you completely. And suddenly, the world snapped into focus.

A hospital. You were in a hospital. And the people whom you didn't recognize were doctors. And the colors you couldn't see were there too, and the sound. Oh, how wonderful it was to hear again.

But the pain was still there, too.

You winced at each breath you took. Clenched at each small movement.

But Conner was still there, holding your hands, and you could hear his words this time.

"-okay," he was saying. "It'll all be okay. They'll fix it. I promise. I won't let them hurt you. You are not leaving me again, understand? Never."

And suddenly the pain was gone. All that was left was him, and his gentle words ricocheting in your mind over and over.

And in the heat of it all, you did possibly the most impulsive thing you had ever done. You kissed him.

The movement hurt. You had to sit up to do it, but boy, was it worth it. It lit a fire in your stomach that crawled all over you body.

The last place it touched was your heart.

And then you were kissing him again, and you couldn't tell if you were the one to seal the gap or if it was him. But you didn't care. Who could when Conner was alive, was right in front of you?

And you loved the fire that he had lit. The tiny sparks. It was all together the most beautiful and dangerous thing, but, oh, did you want more.

When you finally did break away, Conner looked so startled that it made you laugh.

Even to you, you sounded crazy. And maybe you were.

"I-" he started, but you interrupted him.

"Don't leave, okay? I can't stand the pain without you."

And you knew it was true. If he left, the world would melt away, and you would be alone in a dark room surrounded by ghosts.

And maybe it was the lighting. Or maybe it was the pounding in your head, that was increasing by the minute. It could've been the fire in your soul. Whatever it was, it made you say, "You can't leave.

I love you."

A/N. Oh I don't really know if this is good or not, my mind just kinda was like, "oh add a little this, and this, and can't forget this" so idk.

But wither way I hoped you enjoyed it. It was shorter then other chapters (sorry) but oh well. Please comment, vote, follow me, and continue reading! Bye!
