Tessa's POV:

As my shift is over and I am getting out from the Lookout, I stand aside to take my apron off. I've to call Hardin, he must be pissed at me for standing him up after promising I'd call him back. If my stupid phone wouldn't have died, this wouldn't have happened and I wouldn't be feel this guilty.

I break through my thoughts by someone suddenly yanks my purse and run off. "Hey!" I call after the bag-snatcher.

Is all the bad stuffs suppose to be happening to me right now!

I run after him, though I'm not as fast as the bastard pickpocket. And nobody is helping me as I'm yelling. People are useless, neither any of these in the busy street are listening nor looking at the helpless girl chasing a thief.

As he was about to turn a corner he collides with someone and fall onto the ground. It's Robert. "Robert catch him, he stole my purse," I shout while running and he nods.

He takes my purse from the man's hand first and tackles him onto the ground until when I reach them, out of breathe.

"Are you okay?" Robert asks me and I nod, unable to speak. "You're going to jail for this man," he threatens the thief. "Here, Tessa call the cops," he hands me the bag and I take it.

I don't know what happens, but I think Robert's grip was loosen so that's how the man pushes Robert off of him easily and ran inside some alley. Robert stands on his feet and ready to go after the thief but I stop him, "Don't go, you're gonna be late for your work."

"But-" he begins but I interrupts.

"Leave him, I got my purse," I put it on my shoulder.

He gives me a look that says, I warned you to grab your bag tightly and be aware of your surrounding, but didn't says anything to scold me like a child. And I'm glad. "I'm going, be careful Tessa," he tells and leaves.

Getting inside the apartment, I smell intense waves of vanilla sent. The whole apartment is filled with sweet aroma, Nora must be baking and I was right when I see her in the kitchen, she's checking the goods which are baking inside the oven.

I was going straight into my room sneakily without getting her attention on me, but no such luck. "Hey! Wanna eat? I'm making some muffins." She offers, which are still baking.

"Sure. Call me when they're ready." I tell and head to my door.

"Okay," I hear her say it.

The second I get inside my room, I unplug my phone and switch it on. There are three misscalls and five texts from Hardin. Oh God.
Without further a do I call him...

....

Hardin's POV:

I'm fucking bored by sitting and writing, it's not the second book of After I'm writing, it's something that I write in my free time just for fun. I'm a bit sleepy too, I was awake until one in morning in case Tessa calls me back as she promised but she didn't and I was so fucking pissed.

But when I woke up in the morning and had a talk with a lonely bird. Yeah a tiny little bird, who always sits on the railing of my balcony, I talked about why my dearest person isn't giving me the attention that I wanted but later my boiling anger just cool down, thinking that she might be stucked in her work or anything like that, that's why she didn't.

The bird said nothing obviously only chirped and shit on my steel railing. That's why I don't like birds, they do shits way too much that they actually eats. Fucking stupid birds.

As I'm about to go out from my apartment for ramble around the neighborhood in my car and get something to eat, my phone rings. Pulling out of my pocket its says 'My baby ♡'.

I know it's cheesy and corny to named someone like this, but I don't give a shit what you think.

Shutting the door, I get inside and pick up. "Hey!" Tessa says in very high low voice, like she's afraid.

"Hey!" I mutter in a flat tone. "I thought you promised me to call back last night after you get out from the shower, not a fucking day later," I act annoyed.

"Hardin, I'm sorry that I stand you up, I didn't mean to do that. It wasn't my fault, I swear. My shitty phone died then I plugged in and I don't know when I just pass out. But when I woke up and looked at my phone it was still dead because I forget to press the switch to the charger and then I had my shift to cover so I had to go, you know its important." She explains as quickly as possible.

"So work is important than me?" I ask, teasingly.

"I didn't said that you're not-" she begins but I butt in.

"I'm kidding Tess." I tell her and I hear her sigh.

"So are you still annoyed with me?" She asks, softly. How could I keep my fake antagonistic maintain when she asks me in her adorable voice? There is no fucking chance I could do that.

"I was pissed when I waited for two hours and go to bed at one but now... I'm not," I say as softly as she did.

"Oh no. You waited? I'm so sorry, Hardin." I can imagine her frown mouth right now.

"It's okay, Tess." I try to make her feel less shitty. "So how was your day?" I change the subject.

"It was...quite bad," she sounds exhausted.

"Yeah? What happened?" I sit on my couch, legs up on the teapoy.

"Just...woke up late in the morning, felt guilty for standing you up...," I roll my eyes, "Because of that I accidently spilled cake covered with chocolate sauce on someone and the manager gave me an earful-" an uncontrolled laugh came out from my mouth. "Yeah, you should just laugh at my embarrassment." She says in her irate voice.

"Sorry," I say, still laughing. "What happened after that?"

"Then some purse-snatcher was almost stole my purse from my shoulder-"

"What?" I stop laughing. "Are you okay?" I move my legs down from the table in panic. "You didn't get hurt right? Tessa, tell me?"

"Yeah, I'm fine I didn't get hurt or anything. Robert stopped the man for getting away with my purse, so don't worry," her tone is so cool like nothing happened.

She would've got hurt if she ran after that douche bag and get into an accident like a car run at her or he'd have cut her with a knife. I shake the thoughts out of my mind.

"Robert stopped him?" I don't like or stand that guy, but atleast that waiter is protecting my girl from predators in the fucking New York City.

"Yes."

"Say thanks to him would you?" I request her, just to let him know that Tessa is still mine. So it's better if he stayed in her just friends list, nothing more.

"Okay. What you were doing?" Now she changed the subject.

"Nothing important, just going out to get some food and have to do some grocery-" I cut off by someone yelling Tessa's name from her background. "You're going somewhere?"

"No, it's Nora. She made some muffins so she's calling me for having some," she says. "Coming!" She tells to Nora obviously. "So I'm... going. I'll talk to you later then." That chick don't need Tess to have her overly sugared sweets shits right now more than me.

I wanted to talk to you more, instead of saying that I say, "Okay. Be careful Tessa, and stay away for burning kitchen and especially on the street from the thieves."

"Yeah, I will. Bye."

"Bye. I-" before I can finish, she hangs up. "I love you," I said it anyway.

I get outside my building tossing and catching my keys and also thinking about visiting Tessa in New York but stop in my tracks, when I see a person with pink hoodie peeking inside my car through the glass window like he's searching for something that he could steal.

"Hey!" I shout at the person and run at his direction...
