Chapter 3 (Special place In Hell)

                                    

                                          
"Hailey, can I have a word" Sargent Voight calls out to Hailey who is sat at her desk in the intelligence unit, she gets up and walks into her bosses office, the Sargent has a concerned look on his face and asks "I think you should sit this one out". Hailey looks at her sarge in shock and asks "but why".
                          
The boss looks at her directly in the eye and answers "because your to close to the case, and I don't blame you for it, but I think it's best if you just go back to the hospital and be with Luciana". Hailey then snaps back at him in anger "no disrespect sarge but , i want to help her, and to me the best way for me to do that, is to catch this son of a bitch"
                          
Sargent Voight looks at her sternly and says "alright then", Hailey then walks out the office and goes back to her desk. It ain't long after when Kevin Atwater comes walking up the stairs, he goes over to the board which is covered in photos and lots of writing, as well as documents, he then starts to tell everyone in the room some new information on a possible whereabouts to Mendez.
                          
30 minutes later
                          
Antonio and Adam walk through the house, gun in there hands, in proper stealth mode, Adam signals Atwater and Burgess to check upstairs, they do just that. Hailey and Jay are already outside the back of the house incase Mendez decides to run, a very wise choice considering that's exactly what he tried to do. As soon as he saw Antonio he went running through the back door and goes to jump over the fence.
                          
"Freeze, don't move" Hailey says as she points her gone to the back of his head, "give me one good reason why I shouldn't pull the trigger". Mendez just puts his hand up and turns around, he smirks back at Hailey in a very evil way and chuckles a little. "Hailey don't do it, he's not worth it" Jay says trying to get his partner to put her gun down. If she shot him, it would just cause a lot of unneeded shit to deal with.
                          
Hailey stands there for a moment with her gun at the criminals head, she really wanted to pull the trigger "there's a special place In Hell for people like you" she said, she then felt Jay's hand on her shoulder.Then slowly lowered her weapon and Jay shoved Mendez to the fence and handcuffs his hands together behind his back. The two then lead him to the front of the house where everyone is waiting.
                          
1 hour later
                          
Hailey stands by the doorway of the hospital room, she stares at the little girl for a moment and smiles, then she walks in and greets "hey Lucie, I've got some good news for you". The young girl looks up at Hailey all confused, too which Hailey then sits on the chair beside the bed and looks the girl in the eye and smiles.
                          
"We got him, Your dad, he is never laying a finger on you again, he is going away for a very long time" Hailey says proudly, the little girls eyes light up and she stutters out "I, I s, s, s, safe". Hailey nods her head and hugs the girl gently and whispers in her ear in a motherly tone "your safe" she then kisses Luciana on the forehead.
                          
"F, f, thank you" the little girl stutters out of the blue, Hailey then replies back warmly "you don't have to thank me", the two have a moment of embrace as they hug each other. Soon after, Luciana starts to fall into a peaceful sleep, Hailey gets up after 5 minute and heads out to go and meet Jay and the others at Molly's.
                          
10 minutes later
                          
"Hailey" Jay calls out as he notices his partner walking through the door, she smiles and walks towards him and her buddies from the unit. "How's Lucie" Burgess asks as Hailey takes a seat next to her, Hailey nods her head and answers "she's good, she atleast feels safer with her dad out the picture". Burgess nods and replies "I can imagine, poor girl".
                          
Ruzek then blurts out "yea, poor girl, she's gonna end up in the system now too, I mean, when can the kid catch a break", Haileys heart then breaks slightly as she hears Adams words, she goes silent. Burgess punches Ruzek on the arm and scolds him "really", Adam puts his hands up in defense, Burges chuckles a tiny bit.
                          
For the whole time at the bar Hailey just sits there, slowly sipping her drink, in deep thought 'she can't go into the system, she just can't' 'anything could happen to her' 'oh god, what am I gonna do' she keeps thinking to herself. Jay notices Hailey being more distant and he whispers to her "are you okay?", Hailey looks at her partner and nods her head.
                          
Jay knew she was lying but he knew not to push her, and that she would tell him when she was ready. Hailey doesn't stay with them for long and she gets up and makes an excuse for leaving so early, then she walks out the bar and gets in her car, she sits there for ages just thinking. Suddenly she hears a knock on her window, she turns her head and sees Jay standing beside the car.
                          
She slides the window open and looks at him, he then says in a worried way "talk to me", Hailey just sits there in silence before she finally replies back "I, I can't, not yet anyway". Jay then replies back in concern "as long as you ain't doing anything stupid, your not are you?", Hailey shakes her head and answers "I don't even know, but it's not dangerous, so please don't worry".
                          
Jay sighs and replies back reassuringly ", Hailey, I'm always going to worry about you, look, do you want me to drive you home?". Hailey shakes her head and answers "no, I'll be alright, I'll see you tomorrow", Jay nods his head and smiles. Just then Hailey starts the engine and proceeds to drive home. When she walks in, she looks around and continues to think.
                          
She then gets herself ready for bed, and then lays there, staring at the ceiling. She didn't get much sleep that night either, as she just couldn't stop thinking about Luciana. But by the morning she was pretty sure she knew what she had to do, it wasn't going to be easy but this somehow seemed the best thing to do. It kept her safe, and at least Hailey knew she would be loved and cared for the way she needed to be.
                          
Suddenly her alarm went off, she sighed as she turned the alarm off and looked at the time, 7.30 am. A tired Hailey gets herself up and proceeds to get showered and ready for work, after all, today was going to be a long day and not an easy one either.But she knew it would be worth it.
