THE GROUP of six teens now made their way to a boat John B said they used to get here to Charleston. When they arrive, they jump down onto the sand instead of taking the ladder as Sarah was the only one who did. "Alright, ready?" JJ asked, looking to the others on the boat as he and Pope began pushing it.
"Lift up."
Sarah cheered as they took off after John B gassed up the engine. As they set off to head home, Kai looked to Sarah and John B, smiling widely. He couldn't believe it. There they were, right in front of his eyes.
They begun catching up, Pope and JJ just full on rambling about the time that's passed since Sarah and John B got lost at sea, sometimes they laughed or just smiled. John B and Sarah would do the same, sharing their own stories of their time outside of Outerbanks.
Including something about vegan hotdogs.
The sun set eventually, then nighttime past and suddenly it was morning again. JJ was laying down with his head on Kai's lap. "Anybody else starving?" JJ said, his stomach rumbling with hunger. "We're gonna find some food." Kie says as they reached a dock.
They headed into the woods, her, Sarah and Kai as the boys stayed back at the boat. "Ugh! Jackpot!" Sarah and Kai turned to see Kie holding up a watermelon. "Oh, hell yeah, let's crack it open." He took out his pocket knife which Sarah looked at, surprised.
"What? JJ got it for me as a gift once..." He said and walked over to Kie, trying their best to cut open the watermelon using a pocket knife. Kie and Kai shared one half as Sarah ate the other. "Mmm..." Sarah hums as Kie took a bite. "Holy shit." Kai says in delight.
"Okay, so you really got married?" Kie finally asked, looking at Sarah as Kai also looked to her, waiting for an answer. "It wasn't exactly legal, but..." She says and Kie rolls her eyes with a smile. "Yeah." Sarah says, looking at them with a wide smile on her face as well.
Kie smiles widely, glancing away as she takes another bite. "Am I crazy, or is there definitely something going on between you and Pope?" Sarah asked, eating some more watermelon as she looked at Kie and Kai chuckled. "There definitely is..." He stated.
Kie smacks his hand away from the fruit. "Kai," she whispered, but ended up smiling. "Maybe." She says and Kai chuckled. "That's not a no." Sarah says, looking away. "It's not a no." Kie shakes her head as Kai rolls his eyes, looking at Sarah. "They're taking way too long to get together." He whispered.
"Kai, stop," Kie looked at him and he chuckled, looking at her. "What? Am I wrong?" He says and Sarah just giggled. "I've been waiting for you two to get together, you guys fit well together..." Kai says, looking away as he ate some more watermelon. "You really think so?" Kie looked at Kai who simply nods.
"Yup."
They head back with three watermelons as the boys were in an intense talk. "Hi." Sarah got their attention as they walked up. "What ya'll talking about?" She asked them. "Uh... fishing." John B says, staring at the floor before glancing up at his girlfriend, or more so, wife.
"Dropping lures." JJ says, looking over at the other trio. "That's that, you know?" He says and Kai rolls his eyes. "Okay." She says as JJ noticed the watermelons. "Need some help?" He offered and raised out his hands.
"Thanks." She says, handing them over as Kai got into the boat along with Kie. "What's that now?" Pope asked as Kie raised the watermelon, smiling widely. "I got breakfast." He says as Kai hands over the watermelon he had to John B, smiling softly as the boy smiled back.
"Thanks, Kai."
The boys ate and then they continued on their way home to OBX, when the Chateau came in sight, "there she is." Johm B says. "Kai and I have been watching after the place for you, JB." JJ says, patting the other's back.
"Welcome home, guys." He says now, glancing over to Sarah as well. They pull up to the dock, JJ tying off the boat with Pope's help before the group of six all got off. "You know, I gotta be honest. Not exactly looking forward to a check-in at home." Kie tells them.
"Me neither..." Kai sighs, standing beside her. "My parents probably already arranged my funeral." She says and Kai looks at her. "Do you think they could merge with the one my mom most likely arranged?" He asked and she looks at him, chuckling. "I'll see what I can do." She goes along with his little joke.
"I also predict unpleasantries at the Heyward househould after I left the truck in Charleston." Pope says, looking at John B who hums, glancing away. "No one knows we're here, right?" JJ said, looking at the three.
"And you three aren't gonna get into any more trouble for showing up 12 hours later. Am I right, or am I right?" He asked them. "You're not wrong." Pope simply says. "All I left was a note for my mom saying I'd be back in a day or two anyway..." Kai simply says.
"So that means we have 12 hours to do whatever we want. Huh? A little Pogue fellowship. How does that sound?" JJ says, smiling as Sarah simply shakes her head. "Let the shit hit the fan tomorrow." John B says as he looked over at the blonde girl. "Yeah!" JJ says.
"The cops could be looking for us. It could be really stupid." Sarah says with a displeased look on her face. JJ walks over to her, "Sarah Cameron, you've heard of my philosophy, right?" He says as Kai merely sighed.
"No." She says, glancing at the others. "Stupid things have good outcomes all the time." JJ says as the others mouth his words, Kie and Kai look at one another with small smiles. "Who's with me? Let's get some beer!"
