"That was cool," I hum as I return to an upright position.
"That's because you're holding it upside down."
I can't help but input at Cyborg's comment, switching the audio over to my earpiece and holding the unmute button as I speak. "Great job, Beast Boy."
"Shush. I knew that."
"Forget the map. Just follow that case."
I look down to see Robin on his R-Cycle, just below me. His voice comes in through both ears; my earpiece and my natural hearing. I lower myself slightly to edge closer to him and the two of us ride side by side.
"I don't know how Ding Dong Daddy stole it, but we have to get it back!" he adds as I turn the device in my ear back off.
"Can we please call him something else?" I mutter.
Beast Boy and Cyborg ride up to my left, meaning I have the three boys on either side of me. "What's so important about a briefcase?" the shapeshifter questions.
"It's personal!"
Robin's grip on his handlebars tighten and he speeds up, nearing Ding Dong Daddy at a dangerous pace. I sigh and look up, choosing to fly with Raven and Starfire instead.
"This is a waste of time," Raven's muttering when I reach them.
I roll my eyes—not at them, but at the situation as a whole. "Tell me about it," I say, grimacing as an unexpected gust of wind causes me to wobble slightly. To balance myself, I hold my hands out and my eyes flare white. Brown pools in the palms of my hands. "We could run laps around this guy."
"Yes!" Starfire exclaims. "Victory will be ours!"
"No can do, kitty cats," Ding Dong Daddy proclaims. "Daddy's code of the road says... flyin's for squares." He pushes a button and a function opens up where his licence plate would be, shooting a beam at the three of us.
I let out a yelp and lean back so that the rock at my feet takes the brunt of the blow. Starfire and Raven are flung back and I turn around, eyes glowing white as I stop them in the air.
"Ember!" Robin shouts, looking up in concern. He has just enough time to pat the seat behind him. "Get on!"
"I'm good!"
"I don't know what Ding Dong Daddy did to them, but he seems to have something against being airborne," Robin elucidates. He jerks his head to the seat before locking his eyes back on the road. "You're safer here."
I can't argue with the Boy Wonder's logic, and so I don't. Once I'm on the seat, I wrap one arm around Robin's waist and pull my communicator out with the other, flipping it open with the wind. "Star! Raven! You guys okay?
"Aside from the fact that we've been grounded," Raven grunts. "Ding Dong Daddy used some sort of neutraliser beam to bring us down."
"I'm sending Cyborg back to pick you up," Robin states from in front, and it comes through my speaker as well.
"No, keep going. We'll catch up, somehow."
"Fine. Robin—"
"—and Ember!"
I hear Robin's soft scoff under my breath, but the more rapid rise and fall of his stomach tells me he's suppressing a laugh. "Fine," he repeats. "Robin and Ember out." He turns his head to me as much as he can whilst keeping us both safe. "Hold on."
