Danny's eyes followed the trees that swayed by as the vehicle he had been sitting in continued to drive him towards Roma. A sluggish yawn escaped his lungs and the man next to him chuckled.
"That is why I've been asking you to take a little nap, Signore. How long have you been awake?"
"How long till we reach?" he retorted, rubbing his eyes against the cuff of his shirt.
"Quanto ci vorrà?" the man asked his driver who responded with 'dieci minuti'. "Ten minutes? The police have taken care of the area, but they're our men. You don't have to hurry. They'll wait for us to come and see -"
"The reason I want to hurry is because I want to get my boss to safety, Mr. Davide. As soon as I can."
Mr. Davide subtly nodded. "Of course, Signore," he replied politely and began staring outside the car at the rainy streets.
"Er- Signore, may I ask, why you're so worried about her?"
Danny turned to face the guy. "Why? What's strange about it?"
"I mean, she's your boss... Your Capo... I'm sure she is capable of taking care of herself. It has only been a bit more than a week since she came to Italia, isn't it?"
"True," Danny agreed. "She's as capable as any other Capo in Passione. But it's not like I doubt it that I'm trying to find her safe."
"Pardon me, but a Capo that needs help to find their way back home is not fit to be a Capo anyway. You should do something about that soon. It's for the efficiency of the gang."
Refusing to respond further to the bothersome guy trying to provoke him, Danny pushed back into his seat and exhaled a deep breath. Validating his concerns over your disappearance was not something anyone outside Vespa would have been able to comprehend. To them, only the surface was visible - an incapable Capo, gone missing on the very first mission assigned to her, that too by the Boss himself - that's all that mattered to them. Bonds, ties, and attachments meant nothing unless those words would directly benefit the gang. Indeed, it was a shameful incident on Vespa's side; on your side; but the bigger truth was that the Boss was the one actually responsible for all of this.
How in the world could Volta's thievery dodge Passione's radars for two whole decades? It was supposed to have been born out of superior control, wasn't it? The fact that he had failed to discover for so long that one of his 'loyal dogs' was gobbling away his private funds right under his nose, that, was the Boss' first flaw. The second being secrecy.
The entire aura of mystery surrounding Passione's roots was one of the many things Danny never trusted. In fact, supporting and working for a figure who he never had seen or even heard of was utter foolishness to him. There was no telling what they were hiding, what they were capable of. Weighing decisions in such conditions is riskier than walking on a tightrope tied atop the tallest towers in the city, is what Danny thought. There wasn't a 'wrong' or 'right' move here. Every step against the Boss was deemed invalid, introducing terror as well as distrust into the hearts of those who worked for the gang. Had he the choice, and if not for your stepfather F/n L/n, he would have long quit Passione. It was only the respect for that man who had somewhat fostered him and his little sister as well that he had joined the dubious organization.
The third thing that irked him the most was inconsistency. Precisely pointing, the fact that you had been provided a stand without your knowledge. From what he was aware as he had observed B/n closely in his leadership days; in order to gain a stand, one had to go through a trial. Although B/n never told him what exactly the trial was, he had disclosed that he had received powers, and many other members of Passione had too. Danny may have not anticipated the chances of you receiving a stand, but the fact that you did wasn't as surprising now as it had come initially, now that he thought of it. What was surprising was how you had not been put to any such trial at all; at least from what he knew you had informed him of the meet with the Boss for the oath-taking.
