"Youre not quitting on me now, are you?" you called as you watched Childe run past you.
"Just giving you a chance to catch up" he teased. You looked over your shoulder, seeing him produce his water blades as he stared down the black mass. He caught your confused look as he said "the monsters are going to keep on coming as long as this things here, may as well try and get rid of it"
"How are you going to do that?" you asked as you knocked a weapon from a hillichurls hand and then shoved another hillichurl to the floor as it attempted to slip past you "and why are you even helping?"
Childe shrugged "watching you fight these monsters is getting boring, . . and you're getting tired"
You protested "I am not getting tired-"
"On your left"
As he said that you moved to the right but not fast enough to avoid the arrow that whizzed past your shoulder, leaving a small red line of blood in its wake "only a little tired" you muttered.
Childe shook his head as he returned to slicing aimlessly at the mass, leaving you to handle the hillichurls by yourself until the others took down the lawlachurl.
A claymore swung out in front of you, knocking away several hillichurls that were aiming for you "are you alright?" Noelle asked as she stood next to you to help you fend off the hillichurls.
You nodded, thanking her as you both fought the seemingly endless crowds of hillichurls, the odd mitachurl and samachurl joining the sea of masked beasts every now and then.
The others sooned joined you and Noelle as they finished off the lawlachurl, avoiding the mess that could've been a double sized strength-inbued lawlachurl. The damage it could've done wasn't something you wanted to think about, especially since the mitachurls the other day were tough work.
Childe let out a noise of annoyance as the black mass barely responded to his hydro attacks. Diluc huffed as he fell back from the group in an attempt to assist, the two of them hitting the mass with as many elemental attacks that they could muster -and use without hurting anyone in the space of the cavern.
"Any progress of getting rid of that thing?" Kaeya asked over his shoulder, being met with an immediate no from the two "well, if you could start to make some progress, that would be much appreciated"
The hillichurls started to thin out as you dealt with the final few, turning to the others who weren't able to make any more progress with returning the black mass to the hole beneath it.
You felt your hear sink as you saw the familiar form of a second lawlachurl heading towards the entrance "uhm, everyone?"
You heard them all give a collective groan as they realised another fight was imminent despite their growing exhaustion.
You felt a light breeze rush against your exposed skin, you noticed Diluc slow in his attacks as the wind caused his hair to shift over his shoulder as the light breeze started to grow a little stronger. Suddenly, the breeze became a rushing wind that filled the cavern, whistling loudly and forcing you to stab your sword into the ground at your feet as an anchor against the strong wind.
The wind swirled around the centre of the cavern, the black mass responding as it started to be pushed beneath the ground, disappearing into the large hole beneath as the wind seemed to follow it.
The cavern walls rumbled as part of the wall crumbled away, rolling down to fill the hole. You felt arms wrap under you as you were suddenly moved out of the path of the crumbling wall, looking up to see Childe holding you close to him.
Wordlessly, you all made your way out of the cavern, seeing that the lawlachurl had lost interest now that the black mass that had been attracting them had appeared to disappear, now trapped beneath the fallen walls of the cavern.
"Hey there!" a cheery voice greeted as you all exited the cavern fully. Venti smiled at all of you, though his face shifted slighty as he laid eyes on the fatui harbinger that still held you tightly in his arms.
You tugged lightly at Childes shirt as you noticed everyone looking at your position. Reluctantly, Childe returned you to your feet, though you noted how he wouldn't let you move away from him, his hand placed on your waist to keep you close.
"I came out here because there was no dandelion wine at the tavern as Master Diluc was out on a mission, so I came out here to find him" Venti informed nocholantly "and now I have" he smiled before it fell as he looked to Childe "though, I wasn't expecting to find you here"
Childe gave a light chuckle as he joked "at least you're wearing clothes this time"
Venti gave a fake giggle at his comment before he addressed the stunned group once again "nice work with those hillichurls, how about I treat you all to a drink at the tavern?"
"I highly doubt you'll be the one who will foot the bill" you heard Diluc mutter.
Regardless, nobody questioned the bards offer, nor did anyone mention anything about the sudden appearance of the wind that saved the day, instead following the bard back to Mondstadt in relieved silence that the mysterious monster activity was over and the meadows of Mondstadt were safe once more.
