Chapter 22

Sabby pov

Life comes with drama every day, from one situation to another. Human beings were created not just for fun or enjoyment but to solve unlimited issues that arise every time.

I couldn’t believe it when I was informed that adiya had been kidnapped then her boyfriend was shot when rescuing her and Chidinma had dead. It was unbelievable, I still talked to her, joked with her weak self only to be informed about her dismissal.

Adiya has left the state to another state because of some personal reason but promised to come to my wedding which was in two days.

I was feeling giddy, happy, and nervous at the same time. I was having my second wedding and I’ve not told Zaid about my previous marriage.
I sat at the corner of the room, biting my fingernails as I waited patiently for Yusuf’s arrival. I needed to tell him if he wanted to continue to marry a damaged good like me.

Amber came to me, rubbing my tensed shoulder soothingly, ”he’ll understand if he thoroughly loves you” she said softly.
“What if he rejects me” I voiced out my worries. I was afraid, I’ve kept him in the dark for so long. I needed to come out clean, he told me about his previous marriage while I kept mine because I was afraid of rejection and judgemental.
People tend to judge a divorcee or widow and didn’t approve of their male child marrying them because they thought they were a bad woman.

I’m scared, afraid, and anxious would be an understatement.

The door was knocked and I felt my heart rose skyrocket.

He is around, I mumbled frantically.

I was nervous or his reaction.

My eyes darted to the door then to my room… flee or stay, I don't know what to do but flee option was very tempting.

"It's okay Sabby," amber said softly, "He's a good man, hell understands" she mumbled, hugging me tightly before responding to Yusuf teslim.

"Walaikum Salam warahmotullahi wabarokatuh" I sniffed, quickly wiping my stained cheeks.

"Welcome" amber grinned at him as she rubbed my shoulder encouraging and went out, leaving me and Yusuf inside.

"What happened?" Yusuf asked coming closer to me, "your voice sounded urgent, so I left what I was doing" he said.

"Oh" I responded dumbfounded, twirling with my fingers and lost in thoughts before snapping out of it and gestured to the couch to sit as I went to the kitchen to get him water.

"I'm sorry for call" I said awkwardly.

"No" he smiled, "it's okay".

"I want to talk to you about me" I mumbled, settling the tray down on the table.

"Okay, I'm all ears" he responded.

"Emmm…. I" I stuttered, didn't know where to start.

"Oh its okay, there's no need of telling me now" he said, "don't feel pressurize, when you are comfortable, you can tell me" His eyes shown understanding.

"No no" I shook my head, "I want to talk about it" it wasn't fair on him, he had told me about his past, his ex wife and stuff but I was hiding. I've been deceiving him and it wasn't fair on him.

I've been keeping secret from you" I blurted out, sitting far away from him as I rubbed my shoulders, comforting myself.

"I understood” he said softly.

“ no, you dont,” i muttered, “I was once a married woman” i said while he stared at him.

“What-tt” he stuttered, shocked from my revelation.

“Yeah, my father didnt believe in women education, he believed that women are meant to be in the kitchen and its their bus stop” I gulped, trying to accumulate enough air. “He made me stopped school when I was in jss3 and got me married to his friend son”.

“What happened to him?” he asked.

“He died in a car accident a year after our wedding” i responded.

“Im so sorry”.

“Dont tell me sorry,” i sniffed, “ ...and i lost my baby that day also in the accident” .

“Inna lillahi wa inna illahi roji’un” he said.
“Then I became a widow and went back to my father but can you believe what he did?” I sobbed, I still remembered that day as a favorite memory. My in-laws accused me of being a witch and killed their only son and were sent back home. I went back home thinking my father would accept me but I was a stain he wanted to remove from his cloth. A disgrace and shame to him. People looked at me like a shame. People discard me, my father maltreated me for being a shame. When he couldn’t live with the people whispering, he sent me away from home and disowned me as a daughter.

“Shh, it’s okay” I was pulled into a hug by Yusuf while I held his shirt like my like depended on it, I didn’t know what I said all out. All the pain and losing a husband, a child, a father, and everything.

“You are strong,” he said, “to endure everything and look at you now” he whispered. “You are now a surgeon one of the best” he cheered me while I smiled softly, hitting his chest playfully.

“Now stand up and get dress, lemme take you out” he mumbled.

I held him still, ”but…” I trailed off.

“...but?”.

“The doctor said I would find it hard to give birth again because of the accident” everything was silent, just our heavy breathing could be heard. “Talk,” I said shakily, biting my lips as my hands trembling in fear of rejection.

“Sabah, no matter what happened to you in the past, I don’t care and I don’t want to marry you because of children. Well, children are among it but I can live past it” he smiled charmingly.

Everything was bustling in the big hall, the hall was designed white and peach color. The hall was long and wide that could contain more than two hundred people. The couple was sitting under a lovely white canopy on the right side while the groom’s and bride’s friend sat on the left side under a blue canopy.  The groom’s family had their own tent and the bride’s as Yusuf’s mother was parading, checking everything.

The guests were bustling as soft melodious voice Maher zain was playing in the background while Yusuf's mother greeted and appreciated the guests for honoring their invites.

The wedding was glamorous with the decoration, foods and different kinds of events. The sheik they called asked Sabby's uncle if he was happy with the union and he gladly said yes while the people were awed. The Mc called out the couple's friend to talk about them to the people, making the party more entertaining, fun, and hilarious as the Mc collected money from Yusuf before realizing his bride.

The groom’s family presented all the requirements the bride’s family listed. Every item was checked to know whether it was completed or not before the bride's mother prayed for both of them.

And the wedding was rocking.
