About 3 minutes later the debris in front of the exit was pushed away and Casey, Mouch and Gallo came into the hall. "How's it going?" Casey asked, kneeling down next to Stella and Otis. Otis was putting his mask back on Dean. "He's got a weak pulse again, but he's not breathing." Otis said. "Okay, let's get him out." Casey said, picking up Dean. "Chief, we're coming out now, have Shay and Brett get ready." Stella said over her radio. "Got it, Kidd ... Shay, Brett, they're coming out now, get ready." Boden said and waved his two paramedics over. 'Did they find him? How's Dean doing?" Kelly asked desperately. At that moment, Truck 81 came out of the building. "DEAN!!" Kelly shouted and wanted to see his little brother, but Boden held him back. "Kelly, let the paramedics do their job first." he said. Dean was intubated and immediately taken to the med. «Dr. Rhodes, newcomers ... uh, you know what, change of person, Dr. Marcel, your patient." Maggie said when she saw who was being admitted on her computer. "What, why that?" Connor asked confused. "It's Dean" Maggie said. "What do we have?" Dr. Marcel asked, who has now joined. "This is Dean Severide, 8 years old, he has a weak pulse, but has not breathed, we had to intubate on site." Brett explained. "Wait, Severide?" Crockett asked. "He is my half-brother." Kelly said. "Okay, I need to know something else; does he have any medical history or something?" Crockett asked. "Yes, he has asthma." Kelly said. "Okay, all right, we'll do our best." Crockett said, closing the curtain behind him.
"Why is it taking so long?" Kelly asked, pacing up and down nervously. "Now come on, sit down first and somehow that's a good sign that it will take a little longer, on the other hand we would have heard something long ago." Stella tried to calm him down. At that moment Connor and Crockett came into the waiting area. "How is he and please, don't talk nicely, I want to hear the truth." Kelly said. "All right, he's in the intensive care unit now and is ventilated. But don't worry, he's stable, we're only doing this so his lungs can recover." Dr. Marcel explained. "But he'll be fine, won't he?" Stella asked. "Oh yeah, and for that matter, I suggest you enjoy the quiet while you still can." Crockett joked. The others laughed. "Can I see him?" Kelly asked, visibly relieved. "Dean needs rest, so I suggest he doesn't have any visitors at the moment. But of course, I'll let you know when he wakes up." Connor said. Kelly nodded. "We'll pack a few things for him and bring them over tomorrow." Shay said. Connor and Crockett nodded, said goodbye and went back to work. "Now what?" Cruz asked. "First of all, I would be interested in what happened at the school." Kelly said. The firefighters looked at each other. "Good, you and Casey, you're going to the school again, the fire investigators should have arrived by now. The others are going back to the station." Boden said. Matt and Kelly drove back to school with Boden's car and worked with the fire investigators to find out what happened.
"Hey Captain Hubble." Kelly greeted when they arrived at the school. "Lieutenant Severide, Captain Casey, Chief Boden already said you would come by again." Captain Hubble said. "Captain Hubble, I think we found something ... hey guys." Duffy said. "By the way, we heard what happened. How's your little brother doing?" Hubble asked on the way into the school building. "He's on the ventilator in intensive care, but he's stable and will recover, thanks for asking." Kelly said. "That's good to hear." Hubble said. When Kelly, Matt and Captain Hubble came into the great hall, Nick Duffy and Wendy Seager were waiting for them. "So, what have you guys found?" Hubble asked. "We found the source of the fire." Seager said. "And where?" Casey asked. "Here, it seems like they experimented with dangerous chemicals in chemistry class and it went badly wrong." Duffy said. "How so?" Hubble asked. "Well, someone here probably mixed a few chemicals too much and caused a chemical reaction." said Seager, pointing to one of the tables. "But there was nobody down here except ..." Matt said, looking at Kelly. "You don't seriously think Dean has anything to do with it." Kelly said. "The explosion didn't happen immediately either, someone must have been here before class mixing the chemicals." Duffy said. "But that would mean ...» Kelly said. "It can, but it doesn't have to, maybe Dean was just in the wrong place at the wrong time." Hubble said.
