Pete

"Pete, stop! We need to talk."

I closed my eyes and heaved a sigh when I heard Elle behind me on my way towards my office.

I would have loved to massage my temple as I was sure this scene is a prelude to a stressful discussion but Elle was already in front of me before I knew it and so I just had to face her properly.

"What about?"

I asked.

Even if I kind of already had an inkling of what she wanted to say.

"What you said earlier. To everyone."

As I thought.

I tutted.

I didn't know what part of I no longer wanted to say and explain more about the issue Elle didn't understand.

I already said and explained everything to address the issue of Kao and I being cousins-which I already defunct and of us being married which was the truth.

I think I made myself clear about it during my speech earlier after the flag raising ceremony with almost all of the university present right after my talk with the university president first thing in the morning when I arrived.

So far, everything seemed fine and everyone deemed my explanation acceptable.

But really, even if they didn't want to have anything to do with me after that, I really wouldn't care.

Just as long as I have Kao with me.

"Elle, I said what I said. It is what it is and I would appreciate if people-you would stop talking and or asking about it. Now, if you'd excuse me, I have a meeting to run to."

I saw Elle as I was up on stage earlier and based from her look that time, I knew that I had to talk with her sooner that later.

I just didn't thought it would be this soon.

"No, Pete! You can't just drop that bomb in front of everyone earlier and expect me to say nothing! We need to talk!"

Elle said a little to loudly that I saw some students walking around looked our way.

I didn't need this kind of attention.

Not after facing the entire university to explain my side and clear things but I thought, I had to make things much clearer with Elle and so I acquiesced.

"Fine! Let's go to my office. But I can't promise to stay longer."

I said and made my way to the office leaving her behind me.

I tried not to but I'm starting to feel annoyed.

And I slowly realized how I shouldn't really have thought about explaining to Elle because I really didn't owe it to anyone.

Specially her.

I told myself as I finally made my way inside the office.

Call me crass but I didn't bother holding the door for Elle.

"Five minutes Elle. That's all I got."

I told her as I prepared the reports I needed for the meeting which I'm almost late for.

"Really, Pete!?! That's all you have to say to me?"

I looked from my notes up to her.

"What do you want me to say?"

I asked with real confusion.

As far as I'm concerned, I already explained everything to everyone just earlier.
