Back when Ash and Serena were kids, they had gone to a summer camp in Kanto. Ash was all about going and seeing as many pokémon as he could. He wouldn't shut up about being allowed to go when his mother gave him permission. He was excited, happy, and filled with energy and little did he know that he would still have that attitude as an old man. Ash went to the summer camp ready to get the taste of what a pokémon adventure could be like. Serena in the other hand wasn't so happy of going to this said camp. She loved pokémon but she didn't feel like becoming a trainer and she didn't really think much of what she wanted to be in the future. What she was sure of though was not wanting to go to Kanto and being part of some camp. She whined to her mother everyday saying that she didn't want to go but Grace didn't care. A few days later she would meet someone that left quite the impression on her...
                          
"Serena, you go have fun, ok?" Grace said looking down at a child Serena holding on to her hand and not wanting to let go
                          
"But Mom I don't want to-" said a whining Serena but being interrupted by Grace
                          
"Its only for a few days and then I will rescue you" Grace said as she kissed Serena's forehead and lead her to where all the other kids were at
                          
Serena sat down away from everyone feeling a little shy. She didn't want to be there, but she was opening up to the possibility of having fun. A few minutes later and professor Oak appeared which made all the other kids yell in excitement. Professor Oak initiated rollcall and Serena eventually responded when her name was said out loud. Everyone was there except an Ash Ketchum who appeared to be late. Serena was a little happy to hear that the person wasn't coming because their tents were right next to the other in a separate spot and she could have that area for herself. But those dreams of having her own private place were crushed when a tired Ash appeared at the entrance of camp wearing his pajamas.  
                          
"Seems you are a little late Ash" Professor Oak said with a sarcastic tone looking at the tired-out boy still in his PJs 
                          
"I'm sorry Professor" Ash said exhausted from running
                          
"Its fine just sit with the others" Professor Oak said as he pointed to a free spot next to Serena
                          
Ash walked around the crowd of kids and he walked towards the girl wearing a straw hat. Serena looked at Ash and she didn't think much of him. Serena thought he was a little weird for being so late and sleeping all day. But she knew that she had to deal with him for the next few days, so she decided to simply try to ignore him.
                          
After the whole camp introduction, all the kids went to their camping sites and Serena ran quickly to her own tent which was already set up for her. She quickly went inside the tent to set up everything she had for her 1 week stay and she enjoyed the silence of her area. She was finding herself at peace until she heard a boy make a lot of noise getting into his tent. She figured it was this Ash Ketchum that had arrived late.
                          
Serena struggled to zone him out so she decided to join the other kids so that maybe she could find a place for herself. She wanted to be at peace, but her string of bad luck would continue with the first activity of the summer camp starting. Serena had no choice but to join in and pretend to be happy about being there. When everyone finally met up together to listen to their instructions, they learned what they had to do. They were going out on the forest to try and find a pokémon. The pokémon they were going to try and search for is a Poliwag and there were a few of them running around in a small part of the forest which is where the game was being held. Anyone that can find one pokémon would be declared a winner.
