Fridays in the Barnes household had become the most predictable part of the week. Allie would make breakfast, Bucky would leave for his therapy session. Steve would eat lunch with Allie at the apartment while Bucky would eat lunch with a neighbor at a local restaurant. They'd cap off the evening with a dinner with May and Peter and fall asleep to music they listened to as young adults.
The Friday following her first sonogram, Steve had brought over burgers from a local diner that Allie had started to crave. Steve had arrived for lunch later than normal, and both were waiting for Bucky to arrive home. Allie happily ate her burger and fries and gushed about the past week.
"So this is them?" Steve asked as he pointed to the sonogram picture on the fridge.
"Yeah," Allie grinned. "You know, I never would have gotten this kind of picture back then? Medicine has changed so much since Mom and I were nurses."
At the mention of their mom, Allie's face dropped slightly. Looking to a shelf close by, she looked at a picture of herself, Steve, and their mother that she had framed. Looking back over to her brother he gave her a weak smile.
"God, her first grandkid and she'll never even know," Allie sighed.
"Well, to be fair, she wouldn't have known if you'd been pregnant back then either," Steve shrugged as he walked over and wrapped an arm around her.
"I know. I just wish I could have known what her reaction would be. What her advice would be," she said, laying her head against Steve's shoulder.
"I can't speak about advice but I know she'd be excited," Steve grinned. "Especially because you're having a kid with Buck."
"Oh please," she rolled her eyes with a grin.
"She'd be giving you a hard time," Steve's grin grew. "And so would Buck's family."
"Thomas and Ruth would be having a blast making fun of us," Allie laughed with a shake of her head.
"They'd be thrilled and you know it," he smiled.
The front door to the apartment opened and Bucky walked in, taking off his jacket as he closed the door. Smiling over at Steve and Allie, he noticed the burger and frowned at them.
"I wish I knew burgers were on the table," he grinned at the two.
"Our kid has good taste so far," Allie grinned over at him.
"Allie was just showing me the pictures," Steve grinned.
"The whole thing was incredible, Steve," Allie smiled. "Hearing the heartbeat, seeing them for the first time. It's insane."
"Strong heartbeat?" Steve smirked.
"It's my kid, of course they have the strongest heartbeat out there," Bucky grinned and Allie rolled her eyes at him.
"I didn't know a heartbeat could make me cry, but I sobbed," she shrugged.
Steve smiled over at the two. Even though it would have been nice to have been able to live in their own time, he was happy that Allie and Bucky were getting to experience things they wouldn't have been able to back then. Finishing her burger, Allie stood to throw away her trash.
"So was that jelly stuff cold?" Steve grinned.
"The jelly stuff doesn't come until later," Allie scrunched her nose.
"Oh, well then how did the ultrasound itself go, then?" he asked.
"I don't want to talk about it," she shuddered slightly as she walked past him.
