Roman's mood was as Virgil's ears were, that is to say low. None of them were having a great time mushroom hunting in Annabelle's presence, it was just a blessing that she hasn't said anything yet. Still, her gaze was that of a vulture's, she was just waiting for Virgil to mess up in some way.

The borrower had explained what types of mushrooms they were looking for, the velvet shank and oyster mushrooms. The velvet shank was a brown mushroom, and the oyster mushroom was white. Both grew in groups on trees.

So far they had found nothing, and the winter air was chilling them. Well, it was chilling Virgil and Roman at least, Annabelle seemed unbothered. Which for her age, Virgil found strange. Fairies were strange.

Roman just wanted to find the mushrooms as fast as possible and head home so they could get Annabelle out of their hair. The old bat had a judgmental look cemented into her face, as usual, and the prince did not like her being anywhere near Virgil. What if she was the one that tried to poison Virgil? She actually had a backbone, unlike the other two elders.

Actually, poison wasn't a very brave way to kill someone. It was the smartest though, and Annabelle was very smart. Plus they still haven't gotten anything from the investigation that started a few days ago.

"So... how do you know which mushrooms are poisonous or not?" Annabelle suddenly asked, startling Virgil.

"Oh, uh... my people have tried several out I guess," Virgil explained. "I only know which ones are edible because my parents taught me when we went mushroom hunting."

"So mushrooms are a delicacy for your kind?"

"I guess. We really ate whatever was edible, most times not caring for taste. But mushrooms do taste good!"

"You're species is strange. I've heard quite a bit of rumors about you. You're apparently a very good fighter."

"He is!" Roman jumped in. "Even won a fight against Janus once!"

"It was only once, and it was a hard fight," Virgil mumbled slightly as he rubbed the back of his neck, his face slightly red. "I still have yet to win a spar again."

"Well you're still learning! And I am too now, alongside you!"

"Oh, so you're training together?" Annabelle asked. "What brought upon that decision?"

"I want to get stronger as well! I've always hated guards doing everything for me, so from now on I want to help Virgil!"

"As long as your safety is the first priority," Virgil reminded him.

"Yes yes, I know. I promise to be careful only if you do."

"That's not up for negotiation."

"Indeed," Annabelle agreed. "You're the crowned prince, this colony's future king. Your safety above all is the most important."

"See! Sorry princey, but I'm taking her side on this."

Roman gasped and put his hand to his chest, "Traitor!"

"As your guard, your safety is my first priority no matter what. You can't talk me out of it."

"Trust me, I regret trying."

"Good."

"Can't stop me from worrying about you. Especially since whoever poisoned you is still flying free right now."

"They'll be caught," Annabelle said, surprising both the prince and the borrower. "What they did could be considered treason, I mean poisoning him at dinner with the royal family? It endangered not just him, but the royals as well. If the poison hadn't been discovered, and the meals switched up, then one of the royal members could have been killed."
