When I heard the door to my room shut, I let out the painful breath that I was holding. She was truly gone and I wasn't sure if I'd ever see her again. God's offer seemed more and more appealing with every second that she was gone, but I knew I could never truly go through with it.
As broken as I was, I'd rather feel this and know how I feel about her rather than feel nothing at all. I ran a hand down my face and looked around the room to see the fire still there and I shook my head. She was crazy, hell the both of us were.
I whispered a spell to make the flames disappear and stared into the pile of burned things. I should've been angrier that I'd have to replace everything, but I wasn't. It felt like Queen was somehow leaving her last mark on my room. The thought of even cleaning it up seemed hard, but with a few deep breaths, and anxiety about the mess, I grabbed trash bags and began tidying up.
After about an hour of probably unnecessary deep cleaning, I sat on my bed and looked around the empty room. Petty had to be a middle name of hers. Not only were all my blankets and sheets destroyed, but so were my pillows. I was sitting on an empty mattress and would have to replace everything except the furniture.
When I moved to pick up my phone from the nightstand, my eyes landed on an item on the table and I walked towards it. At first, I thought Queen left it behind until I noticed James's name in the right bottom corner.
I frowned and walked back to my bed with the gift and set it down. I hadn't spoken to him or my family after what happened the other day, and none of them had reached out to me. Seeing a gift from him just seemed off.
I untied the back ribbon on the box, and when I lifted the lid, I saw a small notebook titled.
Syn SinClaire: My Superhero
There was a drawing on the cover of what looked like a father and son and the father was wearing a cape while holding the little boy. I smiled slightly at the cover and began reading the first page. The story started with James's interpretation of the night we met and instead of some crazed murderer, I was described as a "man with tattooed armor".
There were many details and drawing of some of the things we had done together. The shows we watched, the museums we visited, and plenty of other things. Near the end of the comic, there was a drawing of my gravestone. He claimed that he visited it "every day after school" and would tell me about his day and I would help him get through tough times.
My chest warmed as he wrote about what I was to him, and I hoped he heard none of what happened in my conversation with Lucifer and my mother. Knowing him, he probably did. I flipped to the last page in the book and I froze as I realized my father's importance to him. A drawing of him and Lucifer captured the majority of the page and in the background was the cemetery.
At the top of the page in neat and eligible lettering read:
"My superhero may no longer be with me, but he made sure I'd always be protected by his."
I immediately closed the book after reading that, and set it down beside me. I stared off blankly into a wall as I thought about everything I read, and I was left in complete awe. I was still hurt about what happened with my father and I wouldn't be speaking to him anytime soon, but the comic did bring some much-needed clarity.
I didn't understand why James chose him before, but I did now. It was a bittersweet thought, although I used to be his hero, that was my father's role now. The best thing I could probably do is let go. Lucifer had him for the past three years anyway and I should never have even tried to get him back in my custody.
What the hell do I do now?
With Queen gone and James with my father, my only true responsibilities were Saint and the Underworld. Seeing as those things were the only things within my control at the moment, I'd throw myself into my work and focus on being the best father I could be to Saint.
A knock at my door made me look up at it and I sighed. "Come in." Cleo, Caspian, and Xavier walked in at my allowance and I raised my brows when I noticed the solemn look on their faces. "Are you all alright?"
"She's gone," Cleo said sadly as she sat down on a chair that the table.
"Yes, she is."
"Do you know if she's coming back or not?" Caspian asked.
"I truly don't know," I admitted. "All I know is that she's leaving."
"She's never going to forgive me," Xavier sighed as he walked towards the bar.
"What makes you say that?" I asked.
"I just saw it in her eyes man," he said as he shook his head. "I mean I did treat her the worst. When she came to the club, she was trying to explain but I was so pissed that I didn't bother giving her the time of day."
"Well, we all fucked up," Cas said to try to soothe him. "We made a mistake and we'll apologize forever, but don't beat yourself up." Xavier nodded slowly, not seeming fully convinced and I rubbed my hands together, not knowing what to do.
"By the way," Cleo spoke up. "Have any of you guys seen or spoken to Mia?"
"No," Xavier answered. Caspian gave her the same answer and I shook my head when she turned to me.
"That's so weird," she muttered as she pulled out her phone. "She was leaving for a hospital a few days ago, she was supposed to call me when she arrived there. I'm her emergency contact as well and I was supposed to get an email from the hospital when she arrived."
"But nothing?" Cas asked.
"Nothing at all," she said as she scrolled on her phone. "It's been almost four days, and I'm thinking about going to the police."
"Why not just do a locator spell?" I questioned. "It's Mia, she tends to wander off sometimes."
"I tried that," Cleo said. "I used five different items, but she didn't pop up anywhere in any of the realms."
"What does that mean?" Xavier asked me.
"It means she's either dead or on Earth."
