Both Maya Bishop and Carina DeLuca loved motherhood. It was truly one of the best journeys that they could have gone on together; it was filled with love, gratitude and emotion; one that seemed to take its toll on the two. However amazing it was, parenting was tough, especially when the girls had both gone through so much. Each day, Maya and Carina went through uncharted territory, exploring what it was like to teach two young girls how to be loved, how to speak their mind, how to advocate for themselves and understand their emotions. Sarah, being freshly thirteen, still was learning basic things such as how to ask for help. It hurt both Carina and Maya's hearts to know that their two newest additions to their family had been through so much pain.

Knowing that they were together, and that both women would do everything they could to help the girls was enough. However, Maya and Carina hardly got any time alone, which for two fiancées who craved physical intimacy as much as they did, was tough.

With everything in her, Carina missed sex, missed the way that Maya's hand would find the small of her back, or how her fiancée's fingers would make their way down to her centre... and Maya missed just how Carina tasted, how Carina's touch felt, how Carina could make Maya beg with just a simple tongue trick...

They'd also had a stressful few months. Sarah had begun to get picked on, and the aggressiveness of the bullying increased exponentially. Months earlier, the bullying had reached its peak when Sarah was attacked in a school bathroom, and she'd managed to escape and run to the station for help. Then, Sarah's biological grandfather, Gerard, filed for emergency custody of her, leading to Sarah spending just under two weeks in his care before Maya and Carina got an inkling that she was being mistreated, which they found was the understatement of the century. Sarah had several severe injuries at Gerard's hands, including a fractured wrist, moderate concussion and blood in her lungs, all of which needed urgent intervention.

Most recently, Maya's father had ambushed the family of four at the funfair that station nineteen had organized. Had it not been for Gabriella, who stepped in to defend the girls when Lane charged at them, Sarah or Lucia could have been struck or injured. Gabriella took an attack to protect her nieces, something Carina and Maya were eternally grateful for.

It had been hard on everyone when Gabriella left three days prior, but her vacation time had run out, and she needed to go back to Catania. There were a ton of tears on everyone's part with the promise of video-chatting soon, a promise that had since been fulfilled four times over.

All of that led them here, in Maya and Carina's room late one Sunday night.

"Do you think maybe one night this week we could go out? Just the two of us?" Maya asked as they laid in bed, their two girls asleep between them. Carina smiled, adjusting the hold she had on her eldest, who was snoring peacefully, completely content being wrapped up in Carina's embrace. Lucia was sprawled between them, limbs thrown in various directions, mouth hanging open.

"Bella, I would love that. Dio mio, I miss when we had time just for us..." Carina trailed off, a twinge of guilt swirling in her stomach. As much as she wanted to be alone with Maya, Carina knew that her girls would miss her. The bambine were still adjusting to being with two stable and loving parents, and she knew that an evening alone would be difficult for them to understand.

"I feel the same way," Maya murmured, knowing exactly what Carina wasn't saying. How they both loved their daughters deeply, and even just wishing for alone time felt mean. Neither of them could imagine what life would be without Sarah or Lucia.

"Tesoro, I do think we could go out. Someone could watch them, reassure them... we can do this. Just because we have the bambine doesn't mean that we as a couple don't exist anymore," Carina reasoned, and Maya smiled in excitement. The thought of getting time alone with her beautiful, elegant fiancée was enough to make her heart skip several beats.
