Chapter 5
"Teya?" I blurted before I could stop myself. She whirled around, not that I should have expected her to not hear me.
"You!" She looked startled and glanced from the tree to me and then back again.
"What are you doing?" I asked, maybe if I convinced her I didn't know anything then I could take my belongings and pretend this all didn't happen.
"I was just passing by..." Teya murmured as if she was confused herself. "You didn't see anything did you?" She looked up warily.
"No." It came out faster than it should have, but she nodded like she believed me.
"I was just going for a walk." Teya explained but I didn't believe her, but to save myself. I nodded politely.
"Are you coming to school tomorrow?" I picked up my books and pencils. Casual conversation but it didn't look like she was going to attack me anytime soon.
"Maybe... I don't know. Don't tell anyone about seeing me here. Okay? You didn't see me." Her eyes gleamed in the last rays of sunlight. She took a threatening step forwards and I quickly nodded. Don't scare the lion, don't attract the beast's attention. I silently murmured to myself. If she was calm then the more likely I wasn't going to be eaten. She pursed her lips and hesitated but then shook her head to herself. I wondered what on earth she was thinking about but then she ran off. Her body camouflaged itself into the surrounding trees and I had lost sight of her. Her footsteps weren't heard and she had nimbly darted around all twigs, sticks and trees that would have caused noises.
The wind rustled like nothing had happened. Dry leaves scattered across the floor showing no sights of other footprints, leaving me to wonder had it all really happened. The only glimpse of her presence was the tiny pink triangular shaking sticking out of a hollowed ridge in the tree. Curiosity got the better of me and since she wasn't around, it was only going to be a short peek. The smell of dew and grass filled the air once I stepped out of vison of the house, maybe because my mum no longer had a reign on me here. The pink triangle was followed by the rest of the material and a pair of jeans. Clothes?
What had Teya been doing out here? Hiding clothes in a tree? I frowned, realising it wasn't any of my business, I quickly stuffed them back into the tree and made sure this time the pink wasn't showing. I admired my handiwork until I realised, Alec.
What was I going to tell Alec? How could I explain that I had met her in the woods? He'd think she was following me or something and definitely would prohibit any contact with the supernatural world for the rest of eternity. It wasn't like Teya had committed any evil deeds, she had just stashed clothes in a tree. Would Alec need to know that? Was there any significance in 'clothes hiding' for werewolves? It would only be for after they shift.
Then why would Teya need to shift? The answer was obvious, their wolves needed exercise too. I groaned, I was overthinking everything. This was too much. I made a decision to sleep on it and think of a solution tomorrow morning.
