"And that is the last box," Steve said as he laid the final box of furniture in the living room of Peter and May's new apartment.
After the wedding, Allie, Bucky, and Steve had unanimously decided that furniture shopping sounded like the ideal way to spend their free time. Steve's apartment may have been fully furnished, but Allie found she was excited about swatches and styles as she and May worked together to find things to put in the apartment. Bucky and Steve had stayed out of it.
As they looked around at the new Parker residence, they couldn't help but feel a bit sad. In the days that May and Peter and been staying with them, Steve, Bucky, and especially Allie had grown quite fond of them. There was more than one meal that Peter and Allie had either tried new recipes or where he taught her a new recipe.
Peter had gone to school for a few more days before being officially in the new apartment, often coming home and complaining to the group as they shook their heads at the teenager. They had all been in his spot once, though for Steve, Bucky, and Allie, it had been a much different time.
Steve looked at his watch before looking at Bucky and Allie. The sun had already set outside and the three took in deep breaths. Steve turned to face May and gave her a small smile.
"We'd better be on our way back to Brooklyn," he smiled.
"Well, thank you. For everything," May smiled in return.
Without a second more passing, Peter made his way over to Allie, giving her a large hug. He held on tightly and Bucky tried to not grin in amusement as Peter laid his head against her shoulder like a child would to their parent when receiving comfort.
"I'm going to miss you the most," he admitted in a whisper and Allie grinned.
"I'll miss you too," she smiled as she gave him a comforting rub on the shoulder.
Peter parted from the hug and looked glumly at the group. It was then that Allie realized that he didn't know if he'd ever get to see them again after the days that had just passed. Looking to the others in shock, Allie looked at Peter.
"You know this isn't the last of us all being in the same room, right?" Allie asked and Peter took a deep breath. "We'll get together for dinners and lunches. In fact, what about having dinner once Bucky and I are in an apartment of our own?"
"That sounds nice," May grinned.
"Can I tell you movies you should watch?" Peter asked.
"Of course," Allie laughed. "Bucky and I have both been on the run, so we still have no clue what's going on. You'll have to catch us up."
Peter let his smile grow as he gave Allie one last hug. Other hugs and goodbyes were exchanged as Steve, Bucky, and Allie left and made their way to the car. As Steve got into driver's side and Allie cheekily stuck her tongue out at Bucky as she slipped into the passenger's seat, he grinned at her.
"Seems like Peter likes you a lot," Steve grinned before teasing her. "I never knew you had a way with kids."
Rolling her eyes at her brother's teasing comment as he drove down the lit streets, she looked out at the passing streets. While he certainly wasn't the first young kid to have been helped by Allie, Peter and Allie had seen traumatic things at the same time while standing beside one another. She supposed that had to have a lasting impact on a teenager.
