The sounds of hooves clashing against the ground accompanied by the sounds of her fast breathing filled her ears.
"Move faster Darling please" the girl begged her horse who seemed to understand her and run faster.
She noticed a clearing in the foreground and realized that a ranch or a clearing was approaching. This was a time of quick decisions and she decided to cross it to the other side where the forest continued.
The moonless night gave little to no light onto the landscape as she rode on. A light ran was falling down to the earth, spraying onto the mysterious girl.
For a minute she didn't realize whether it was sweat or rain but the steadily increasing rain confirmed her doubts.
"Just go straight" she rode through the ranch, scaring the dogs who were sleeping outside the stables. They began chasing the girl and her horse, barking threateningly.
Her horse neighed nervously and she patted her to calm her down, "Please.... You are faster than them... keep running Darling"
The horse kept running through the fields, jumping over the fence and almost making it through the forest when she heard a loud gunshot.
"Oh lord" she mumbled but they kept riding. The sounds of hooves was heard and she knew it wasn't from her horse.
A peek over her shoulder showed her two men on a large horse. Much larger than hers.
Looking ahead, the girl squinted in the rain, thankful that the forest was fast approaching. The men didn't seem to be ones that she knew and were probably from the ranch that she crossed- a decision that she now regretted.
"Stop!" One of the men shouted but she didn't pay heed to them.
"You're heading to the forbidden land! Mark fall back" she heard.
It wasn't clear what they were talking about but she had no time to think about that now. She had entered Nightshade Forest and new that the river would be approaching soon.
Peeking back again, she realized that the men had disappeared. A smile appeared on her face and they kept riding ahead, hoping to reach the river.
"Darling slow down" The girl warned her horse who didn't pay heed. They were approaching a clearing where the grass seemed illuminous.
The horse seemingly jumped over the illuminous grass and kept running as if nothing had happened. The girl turned back to see it and realized that it truly was illuminous and that she wasn't alone after all.
A figure was right behind her; one that she could not recognize.
"Oh no..." she spurred the horse on and the man behind her began to catch up to her.
He was silent and not throwing out commands like the other men. This scared her.
"Please! Leave me alone!" she yelled but it didn't seem like he heard her. Soon enough he was riding head to head with her and she knew he would force her to stop. They weaved between trees a good distance between the two horses.
Tears running down her face, she kept riding but knew that even her horse was tired.
"Please" she tried to cry out but the lump in her throat took away half her voice. Her vision blurred as tears flooded her eyes.
The horse nearly stumbled but regained its composure and kept running. This proved that the horse was tired.
A patch of empty field caught her eye, this one was more luminous than the last one.
She could feel her horse faltering in its speed and the man almost nect to her now. Turning to him, she couldn't make out his face but knew that he was looking at her.
A large jerk went through her body and she flew ahead along with the man. They were catapulted off of their horses and fell into the patch of illuminous grass.
"Ah.." she held her stomach but before she could react, a hand pulled her shoulder and her back was pushed against the soft wet grass. The rain was falling in sheets now and pooling in the sockets of her eye.
A hand was pressed to her neck, "What were you stealing?!" The man yelled.
"I wasn't!" She yelled back, crying and pleading altogether, "I... I am a runaway sir.. please"
His grip loosened and she thought that he had taken mercy on her but he was staring ahead at something.
She slowly pulled herself up, and turned to see what it was he was looking at- The grass was lit. Almost like it was on fire but cold to the touch. But that wasn't the most stunning thing...
It was the glowing man.
