That evening, I strolled into the library. Wasting no time, I climbed the stairs and hurried towards the hidden alcove.
When I arrived, Evelyn was already there. A textbook was lying open on the desk with some pencils and paper beside it. There was also a second desk chair which hadn't been there before. Did she bring it up herself?
Evelyn turned to me with her usual scowl. "You're late."
Checking my watch, I found myself to be two minutes behind. "Sorry, there was a dragon in the courtyard. He claimed his treasure was in this library and he wouldn't let me pass."
Rolling her eyes at me, Evelyn patted the chair beside her. I sat down with a grin, and we started studying.
"So, what's this?" I asked pointing at her notes.
Evelyn frowned at me. "Balancing equations. We learned this in today's class."
I nodded and rubbed the back of my neck. "Ah, right. Yeah, I'm no good with chemistry. Combine it with math and I'm lost. You didn't seem to have any trouble though."
Evelyn's head snapped around so fast her hair smacked me in the face. "Were you watching me?"
I pulled at my face to remove any of her stray hairs and hardly noticed her question. When it finally clicked, I panicked. "No! I wasn't watching you. That would be creepy," I said gravely.
She glared, clearly not believing me. "You're right, that would be creepy." Turning back to her notes, she muttered. "I told you to stop."
I nodded meekly. "Right, sorry."
Flipping open my books, I craned my neck to read Evelyn's textbook. Subtly, she nudged the book towards me. Shaking my head, I chuckled and began attempting the questions. I checked Evelyn's notes to make sure I was getting them right, but I was struggling.
It gradually became more difficult to answer the questions. Not because the questions themselves were getting harder, but because Evelyn kept glancing at me. Eventually, I couldn't take it anymore.
"What?" I demanded, frustrated.
"Hm?" She said, turning her head with a startled expression.
She was biting her lower lip cutely and it distracted me for a second, but still I managed to look her in the eye.
"You keep looking at me."
"No, I don't," she said, frowning.
"Yes, you do," I insisted, thumbing my pencil at her.
Shrugging, she returned her attention the textbook. "No, I don't. Not intentionally anyways."
My brows drew together. "What's that mean?"
She shook her head. "Just curious is all. You haven't been flirty once this afternoon."
My jaw fell open. To say I was surprised would be an understatement. Slowly, a grin snuck onto my face. I turned so my body was facing her.
"Well, that can easily be fixed," I said, showing her my smolder.
"Not necessary," she said, ignoring me.
Placing my elbow on the textbook, I leaned in front of her. "You're so hot it's speeding up our bonding rate."
Evelyn glared and threatened me with a pencil. "You agreed, no more pickup lines."
Smirking, I pushed her pencil away from my face. "No, I agreed no more chemistry pickup lines. Besides, that wasn't a pickup line, just a fact."
