Damian's POV:
Raven was talking with the women (Kori, Selena Kyle, and Barbra), while I stood behind her. She put a comforting hand on mine, bringing up my spirits a bit. I did not want to be here and she knew it. I was having a conversation with my father and brothers now.
"There is a disturbance at our borders once more, so I shall send Dick and Jason to take care of it," Father said while sipping on his coffee.
"Why must I go?" Jason protests. "Damian always does border patrol."
"Because your brother just got married and after you broke into their room this morning, having you far away for a while will be a gift to them," Father said with no hint of emotion in his tone.
"I didn't break into their room," he said as if his father over-exaggerated it.
"You picked the lock on the door," I growl at him.
"You didn't answer the door. For all, I know you could have been killed by assassins in your sleep, so I was just checking on my little brother and his new wife," Jason said, trying to make himself sound like a hero.
It annoyed me.
Raven gave a light squeeze to my hand, which was still resting on her shoulder. I took a deep breath and kept my mouth shut. There was no point in arguing it any further because it would only upset her. She seemed to be having a good time, and I didn't want to ruin that.
"How is she doing that?" Tod asked Jason loud enough so I could hear.
"Shut. Up." I warned them.
They both seemed to realize that I wasn't kidding anymore, and they sat back in their chairs and didn't say anything else.
"Damian," father said, bringing my attention to him. "I have scheduled your honeymoon for next month because I need you here for a bit. I will give you the next few days off, but you will need to go back to work in four days."
"Yes, father." I understood this was more of a command than a suggestion.
"Your bride is well educated, so you may consult her. Having her help you won't be a bad idea as long as you don't get distracted," Father said, trying to lessen the workload for me.
"Alright," I nod.
"Why don't you sit?" Father finally asks.
"Raven and I will be going soon enough," I explain. "There is no point in me sitting down."
"I understand," Father nods. "You are free to go."
"Yes!" Jason and Tim shot out of their seats.
"Not you two," Father scolded them.
"But why do they get to go?" Tim argues.
"They just got married and were forced to come to supper the next day. They can leave. You can't," Father said it as simple as that.
"Thank you, father," I bowed and moved my hand from Raven's shoulder to her arm. I leaned down and whispered. "We will go now."
She nodded and stood up. "Thank you all for a wonderful meal," she bowed and then took my arm. We walked back into the house and down to our new living quarters. When we got inside, Raven sat in front of the fireplace and leaned back on the couch.
"That was an unusual meal," she said with her eyes closed.
"Indeed," I come to sit in the seat beside her on the couch.
"Will it always be like that when Miss Kyle comes over?" She opens one eye and looks at me for an answer.
"That was better than the other times by far," I tell the truth. "Usually, we don't say a word and only father and Selena talk the whole time."
"That must be so awkward," she cringed at the thought.
"It is," I nod in agreement.
"Well, I am glad to have met her. She was polite and seemed to like your father quite a bit," she closed her eyes again. "She even made an effort to talk to all of you about your lives to get to know you better."
"Indeed," I nod.
"Can I ask about your mother?" She said as if walking in needles.
"What do you want to know?" I turned to her.
She opened her eyes and turned her body towards me. "What happened to her?" She asked, looking down at her hands. She was nervous, but I knew that there was no point in hiding this from my wife. She needed to know, and I was happy to tell her.
"She is from the League of Assassins, which I inherited when I was ten. She seduced my father with means to produce an heir," I explained. "She did become pregnant with me, but my grandfather's rule ended after an assassination."
"Oh," she said in shock.
"Mother thought it would be best to leave me, a two-month-old, at father's doorstep with only a note and a dagger," I shrugged. "She said it was because she couldn't look after me and run the League until I came of age."
"Have you seen her since?" I could tell she was trying not to push me.
I knew she didn't want to get yelled at or step over a boundary and I was great full that she was being so courteous of me, but as my wife, I really didn't mind telling these things. I wanted to share my world with her in every way.
"Raven," I cupped her face in my hands. "You can ask me these things. I won't get mad."
"I just don't want you to feel like you HAVE to share," she looks me in the eyes.
"I want to share my life with you. All of it," I assure her. "And yes I have seen my mother since."
"Does she come often?" Raven asks, looking into my eyes for any sort of answer.
"She probably comes around once a year. She is royalty on her own, so she stays as a guest and has a political alliance with my father, which they have to sign every year on the new terms." I explain to the best of my ability.
"Do you have a good relationship with her?" She asks.
"She believes that I am always loyal to her, but I am in fact the opposite," I explain. It's like what Raven and her father have but different in its own way. "She will treat me as her beloved son while people are around and demands results from me when we are alone. She can be overbearing and rude, but I must show her respect."
"I understand," Raven nods.
"Any more questions?" I ask.
"Not at the moment," she shakes her head.
"Alright then," I nod in satisfaction. "If you think of anything, just ask."
"Alright," she smiles, showing off her beautiful smile. "I will."
I took Raven's hand in mine, feeling the comfort that she gives off whenever she is around. I close my eyes and lean back into my seat, needing a minute to cherish being with her. I felt her head rest on my shoulder as she swept her fit onto the couch.
"Are you tired?" I ask her, opening one eye.
"Yes," she yawned. "I just want to stay here for a little while."
"Alright," I agreed. I then moved her so her head was resting in my lap. I grabbed the blanket from beside me and cover her tiny body with it.
"Thanks," she says, sleep already thick in her voice.
I smile down at her and run my fingers through her jet-black hair. I do this for a while, listening to her breathing slow. I find she is drifting into sleep much faster than I thought, so I grab a book from the end table and began to read it, bidding my time.
