Caitlin and Mona decided to have a spontaneous meet up for breakfast the next morning. Caitlin has been trying to avoid her house at all costs so when Mona asked if she wanted to go to lunch, she jumped at the opportunity.
Caitlin stares at her iced coffee, swirling the straw around her drink as Mona goes on about some pair of shoes she saw on the way over. Mona stops mid-sentence noticing Caitlin wasn't even listening to her. Mona waves her hand in front of the brunette's face snapping her fingers causing Caitlin to flinch, her gaze landing on her friend, "are you even listening to me?"
Caitlin sighs glancing at her apologetically, "no, I'm sorry."
"What's going on?" Mona questions, leaning on the table concerned.
"My mum's back in town," Mona's eyes widen in surprise, "so I'm trying to avoid my house as much as possible. Sorry for zoning out."
"No, honey, it's okay," Mona assures her, placing her hand on top of Caitlin's, "how are you holding up?"
"To be completely honest...I don't know," Caitlin sighs glancing away from her friend, "it's so weird at the moment, like, when I came downstairs this morning, she was standing there making breakfast, and it made me think back to the times she was around, you know, and how much easier life was back then."
"What about Brandon and Harper? How are they doing?" Mona asks taking a sip of her drink.
"Harper's spending time with Melissa trying to support her as best as she can and Brandon's visiting some friend that came into town the other day. Not sure who exactly," Caitlin shrugs her shoulders, not knowing the details about her brother's friend.
"I'm sorry, I'm here if you need anything," Caitlin gives Mona an appreciative smile.
"Thanks, Mona," Caitlin pulls her hand away from Mona, drinking her iced coffee, "so anything new with you?"
"Yeah...about that," Mona trails off sheepishly, "Hanna's mad at me."
"She found out about you ripping the letter Caleb left her?" Caitlin question causing Mona to glance up at her in surprise, "Lucas overheard you and told me. I helped him bring Caleb back into town, so you're not the only one she's pissed at." Caitlin raises an eyebrow, staring at her curiously, "why exactly did you rip it up?"
"He hurt Hanna and I guess that was my way of trying to protect her," Mona explains shrugging her shoulders, "I know, it was stupid. I screwed up, big time." Mona tilts her head to the side, "why did you bring him back? I thought you were mad at him?"
"I was but then I punched him so I got majority of my anger out," Caitlin admits earning a laugh from the girl across from her, "I just know that he cares about Hanna a lot, more than Sean ever did, and I just believed that if he came back, he could fix things with her." Mona hums biting her lip causing Caitlin to narrow her eyes, "what are you trying not to tell me?"
