I'm Sorry

2560 words

Night fell over Jackson, Violet walked along the quiet road towards the bar which was lit up brightly, the sounds of music and people laughing inside. She quietly stood outside the door, listening to the sounds for a moment, looking over her outfit again and again until finally, her hand reached the doorknob and she pushed it open entering the bright room lined with fairy lights. People talking and laughing, some dancing along to the music. Violet glanced around the room, uncomfortably shifting her weight until her eyes landed on Jesse, her body immediately moving in his direction making it over to the bar.

"Thank god you're here. I thought I was doing this alone." Jesse laughed, taking a drink from his glass cup before nodding, his eyes on Dina the entire time. "Me too. She ditched me a while ago. Surprised your here honestly." Violet waved Seth over before looking at Jesse. "Me too, I stood outside that door for five minutes thinking about if I should run or go in. I promised Dina I'd try though. Liquor, straight." "Got anything to trade for that?" Violet dug into her pocket for a moment before pulling out a watch handing it to Seth. "I know you like collecting them." Seth took it and then smiled laughing. "I've been having Vinnie look for this one for almost six months. Thanks Vi, saved me a lot of disappointment." Violet smiled at Seth watching him turn around to the bottles.

"Ellie was talking to Dina about you." Violet suddenly tensed up, looking over at Jesse. "Why?" "Wanted to know about Ben, or something. She seemed concerned." "Good for her, she actually cares about someone other than herself." Violet quietly thanked Seth, taking the glass from him and taking a drink of the strong liquor, the burning feeling making her slightly less tense. "She cares about you." "Yeah, she definitely didn't care about me when- nevermind. Just know, I have a reason for being how I am with her." Jesse nodded, standing up slightly straighter, turning his full body to look at Violet. "I know, you always do. I'm just saying, maybe you should talk to her." "And maybe she should apologize for what she said to me. Maybe she should apologize for completely abandoning me for how long? Then again, apologizing won't fix three years of fucked up, will it?" Violet downed the drink before turning back to Seth nodding at him for a refill.

"I don't want to talk about it anymore. I'm here to get drunk and have fun. I'm not thinking about shitty friends or shitty ex-boyfriends." She took the now full cup and downed half of it turning to look at the dance floor meeting eyes with the boy Dina had been talking about. "And there is my ticket to fun." She quickly drank the rest of the drink and left Jesse at the bar walking towards the boy with a smile, him returning it shyly. "Hey, you must be that boy Dina was talking about. The one from Louisiana?" The boy nodded, scratching the back of his neck with an awkward smile. "Yeah, I'm Ryan. You must be Violet, right?" Violet nodded, taking the hand he stuck out and shaking it. "Yeah, you can call me Vi if you'd like, now how about, we dance?" Ryan nodded enthusiastically before blushing and looking away, allowing Violet to drag him over to where everyone was dancing.

"How long have you lived in Jackson?" Ryan asked, putting his hands on Violet's waist as she began to sway her hips to the song, a sloppy smile on her face. "Almost five years. And you?" "Only a couple weeks, it's nice here." The alcohol was really sinking in now, Violet laughing at how much of a lightweight she really was. "C'mon breathe, let's have fun!" Violet burst out laughing as Ryan swung her around the two dancing around the dancefloor to the upbeat music, her stomach hurting from how much she'd laughed.

The song soon ended, the two separating, their laughter dying down into smiles. "You're a lot more fun than you look." Violet commented as the two made their way to the bar, still holding each other's hands. "I'm taking that as a compliment." "You should, I thought you were gonna be the awkwardly shy doesn't dance type but man did I fool myself." Violet waved Seth over the two, getting their cups refilled and turning to look at each other once again. "Thanks for that. I needed it." Violet took a drink of the vodka smiling at the taste, Ryan's face scrunching instead. "Yeah, me too. Being out there, you don't really get to have fun." Violet frowned and nodded, her mind returning to the days before Jackson.
