Shinichi could only stare as the news opened up with what looked like a catastrophe. Almost instantly, his phone rang, Haibara at the other end. Without breaking his eyes from the television, Shinichi accepted the call and lifted the phone to his ear.

"Kudo, are you okay?! The news are full of it! Kudo?! Kudo can you hear me?! KUDO!"

Shinichi swallowed the lump inside his throat, slowly raising himself. There was no time.
"I have to go..." he muttered into the phone before ending the call, not giving Haibara a chance to answer.
Almost immediately he was all over the house. His copy of the published mystery novel, random clothes he could find all throughout his wardrobe. His passport, his papers, his keys. The car keys, too. He needed that. Pandora was safe in his pocket.

Without minding anything else, Shinichi stormed out of the house- an explosion shook the ground beneath him as his house went up in flames, eating away at the furniture inside. He could only save himself so fast, he could feel the heat radiating from behind him. Shinichi didn't turn around, he jumped into his car and drove off immediately.

Kaito's magic show had been set ablaze.

The entire building was on fire, screams and cries of fans all over the place as fire fighters evacuated. Explosions sliced the air apart and Shinichi knew, this was both of their ends.
Kuroba was nowhere to be seen, the magician had been swallowed by the ground, and Shinichi could only beg that he was still alive, somewhere, with Pandora protecting him.
Shinichi could feel his energy the closer he got to the large performance hall, he was driving like a maniac to make it in time. He had to get this done.

Shinichi jumped out of his car and grabbed his suitcase, rushing towards security who tried to hold him back.
"Sir you can't go there."
"But my brother!! Kaito! Is he still in there?!"
The security guards flashed a glance back at the sizzling and crumbling building before looking back at Shinichi.
"Please sir, stay calm and stay out of this building."
Shinichi could only laugh in an ugly fashion before he jumped the fence with ease and made a run for it into the building. The entrance behind him collapsed almost immediately- sealing him into this burning cage of death.

Shinichi didn't have to scream his name; he clutched Pandora in his hand, trusting it to guide him. Through the heat, the flames, through Pandora he felt nothing of it. And finally, finally he felt himself getting closer and closer.
"It's a pleasure to see you, Kuroba Kaito. Or should I say second generation, Kaitou KID?"
Shinichi froze in his steps, tensing. This voice was... directed at him? They couldn't hold them apart? A smirk overcame Shinichi as he mussed up his hair a little and turned around to the offender, facing him without fear.
"Why me, Kaitou KID? No. But I'm not in the mood to accept fan visits, so I'm going to have to take my leave now."

Staring fearlessly into the barrel of a gun pointed at him, Shinichi recognized the all too familiar Black Organization. It was too obvious. He would have laughed if it hadn't been so ridiculous.
"Don't play games, KID. You have Pandora with you, don't you? Hand it over, and I might actually make your death less painful."
Shinichi raised his head, silent. He had always wanted to do this, since the momemt he had received Pandora's gift.

"Shoot me. I'm excited, shoot me. Give me your best."

Shinichi's voice was calm, threatening, and the agent of the Black Organization didn't let himself be invited a second time. Yet just as he pulled the trigger, a smoke bomb went off next to Shinichi, clouding him within.
Shinichi let out a scream as the bullet dug into his flesh, a perfect hit right into his stomach, and yet he still felt so powerful as a hand grabbed his and he was pulled along, away from death and murder.

The moment he looked up, he recognized the beautiful indigo eyes of Kuroba Kaito staring down at him.
"We need to leave."
"I know," Shinichi wheezed out through pained gasps, his stumbling steps gradually becoming stronger with each second Pandora took to force his body into perfect shape again. He could feel it pushing the bullet out again, bit by bit.
"I've already packed. Where do we go?"
"I don't care. Just away from here."

Shinichi followed Kaito closely behind, evading falling bricks and planks, evading the fire threatening to consume them whole.
"They know you're KID," he hissed at him, only to receive a nod.
"I figured. I've already planted a dummy of mine, looks disgustingly real to my corpse. Let's get out of here."

Kaito and Shinichi made it out just barely bevor the building collapsed in itself. They couldn't take the car any longer, it was probably already bugged. Shinichi made a dash for the nearest quiet corner, escaping unscathed and free from dangerous eyes. But Kaito kept running with him, running from their old lives.

The Black Organization knew.

They weren't going to forgive so fast again.

With endless stamina at his disposal, Kaito could keep up a sprint for quite a while... and so could Shinichi. Through quiet ways and alleys, through bushes and forest, these two ran hand in hand. Kaito finally came to a rest as the sun was setting, diving the sky into a golden shine. As the two men caught their breaths, Shinichi couldn't help but let out a low snicker.
"...just like the old times."
Kaito stared at him for a second, then let out a soft laugh as well.
"What are they gonna do, shoot us? We need to keep going, Shin-chan.... Where do you want to live next?"
"Hawaii?" Shinichi was picking up speed again, and Kaito was carefreely jogging next to him.
"Sounds wonderful. Shall we run away together, Shin-chan~?"
"It would be my pleasure."

Kaito let out a soft laugh. Their lives were on the line and yet, it was so ridiculous. His worst fear had become true, the Black Organization discovered his former identity.
"...for now, let's keep walking. We don't need rest. And... we're nearly out of the city."
Shinichi looked around, then smiled.
"Did you drain our accounts?"
"Not myself, but I told Kaa-san to hide the money somewhere for us. She has gone into hiding as well."
"Good, good..."

Shinichi watched the setting sun with a soft smile. He... felt so safe, despite just being shot by someone not even a few hours ago. Pandora made him feel safe, took away all his fears. He looked up at Kaito, also calm as day. Well... This wasn't going to be something new.

Another life another identity.
