"Ow, hot!" Mayumi hisses as she grabs the side of a hot plate. "That hurt! Be careful Y/N."
"I'll take it," you smile as you grab the plate from Mayumi, being cautious.
The two of you begin bringing out the plates of food to the large table as they're ready. The second time you go back to the group, your eyes land on Mayumi beside the silver-haired male as they exchange words.
Please don't let him recognize me...
You don't pay their conversation much mind as you continue to do your work and attempt to block out any thoughts of him recognizing you.
"Oh, Y/N!" Mayumi calls as she jogs over to you, "Think you can take this one, too? It's the last to go out. I think it's for the gray-haired guy."
In all honesty, you wanted to say no. More time near him meant a higher chance of you being recognized. However, he could have already recognized you which would make your whole rebuttal utterly pointless. Anyway, it's your first day on the job and Mayumi is basically your mentor. Who are you to say no?
You walk over to the table and place down the plate before him. As you straighten up to leave, he looks up at you. With his signature heart-melting smile that instantly sends chills down your spine, he thanks you.
Yep, he definitely noticed me.
You nod, your face heating up as you hum a quick "you're welcome" before leaving.
"Y/N, you want another table?" Mayumi asks as you approach her and the brown-haired greeter you previously met.
"Sorry, I think that's it for me tonight," you say with a slight frown. "My parents will probably kill me if I come home any later than I already am."
The greeter hums "okay, no problem," kindly and walks off.
"It's alright," Mayumi smiles, "you're not on the clock or anything. Can you stay to help clear the table when the Karasuno table leaves?"
"Of course."
When it's time, you begin to collect the empty plates from around the large table your classmate and his friends had been at. From underneath said classmate's dish, you find a 1000 yen bill folded in half around a napkin. Written on the napkin is a smile and the words 'thank you' in Kanji.
As you look down at the money and the napkin, Mayumi approaches you. "What are you doing?" she asks as she takes the plate for you. Then, she notices what was left.
"Ohhh, so that's why he asked for you specifically," you feel your face heat up as she smirks. "Gee, that vending machine guy must really like you."
"Come on, Mayu, don't say that. He's just in my class. Besides, isn't it kinda weird?"
"No," she giggles as she places the yen in your pocket, "he likes you."
"But-"
"Just keep it," she winks as she walks past. "We can split the main tip anyway."
"Okay," you sigh as you continue to help with the rest of your cleaning duty.
Once you're finished cleaning and it's time for you to go Mayumi hugs you goodbye. The greeter, too, walks up to you and apologizes for not introducing herself properly before.
"It just gets so busy here," she sighs, "but that shouldn't be an excuse. My name's Sophie."
"Y/N, nice to meet you."
"Same to you, Y/N," she smiles sweetly. "I'm so glad that Mayumi's got a kind and helpful friend like you."
"Mhm," your friend nods, "and I'm so glad you're working here with me! Now I get to spend more time with you!"
"Oh, are you going somewhere?" Sophie wonders.
"In June I'm leaving with my parents for England. Although I've stated that I'm clearly against it, I don't have much choice. They're being relocated for work," you tell her.
"That's rough. Good luck with the move, Y/N. I used to live in France when I was a kid and it was a lot different living here."
"Thanks," you smile sadly as you continue to think about the move you desperately wish you didn't have to be a part of.
Just then, Mayumi whips her phone out of her pocket and wraps an arm around you while attempting to squeeze Sophie in, too.
"Smile!" Mayumi hums before smiling at her camera. The three of you smile and Mayumi clicks the photo. "Cute," she giggles, "I'll send it to you two. Oh, Y/N you can put it in your photo album! Might not be the best quality, though..."
"I'm sure it will still come out well," you assure her.
Afterward, your two friends wave goodbye to you as you leave the restaurant. Once you finally take a seat in your car you let out a long, well-needed breath. You place your head down against the steering wheel and let yourself relax for a moment.
I only waited on one table, but I feel completely drained. Especially after seeing that weirdo from my class. What the hell is his name?
You sit up and put your car into reverse, backing out of the parking spot.
Sugihara? Suenami? Suna?
"Forget this, I have no idea," you mutter to yourself.
Then, looking slightly to the side to check the time, you see it's a bit before ten o'clock. Pressing down on the accelerator a bit harder, you begin to dash home.
When you're finally there, you walk in to see the television still on. You walk over and find your dad passed out on the couch.
"Dad," you whisper as you shake his arm softly. "I'm back, you should go to bed."
"Eh?" he groans as he sits up. "O-Oh, did Karasuno win?"
"You were watching my school on tv?" you ask curiously.
"I was until I fell asleep apparently," he stretches and extends an arm out to you. "Can you help me up?"
"Sure." You grab onto his arm and help him up. He then turns off the television and says goodnight to you.
Guess they forgot about that curfew they set.
