The new boy had caused quite ruckus around the camp. More of how he looked rather than who he was. I rolled my eyes. I'd also heard that Willow had gotten badly hurt. I wanted to go check on her at the infirmary but Kayla was not gonna let anyone in.
Willow was a good friend, though we weren't supposedly besties, she's helped me through a couple of things in the past. I decided that I would see for myself who this boy was so I pushed through the small crowd and found Chiron talking to him. He was well built and the talk of him being good-looking wasn't untrue. He seemed about sixteen, 2 years older than me. But it didn't matter. Nothing about him being a good looking boy mattered.
I sighed and turned my back to the crowd. I wanted to meet him, talk to him, but why would he talk to anybody like me?
I decided to go to the training area and practice throwing knives. The training area was often empty nowadays, mostly because there were not many campers. Some of them hadn't come in the first place. It was said that the campers and some mortals had descended into madness. Of course there was something sketchy about the crazy people. Especially the ones who had mentioned having weird dreams. We all had weird dreams, but they'd said this was completely different. However, knowing that something was going on, we could do nothing because of the absence of a proper quest. We could do nothing without given a quest. But before I reached the place, A camper caught up with me. It was Dex.
" Don't you wanna see what's going on?" He asked.
" I already did, what's so special about it though?" I told him. He scoffed,
" Other than the fact people think he's better looking than me? Rubbish." He said with a scowl. A slight accent laced his voice. Not many knew he'd lived in England with his mother until they'd moved here and Dex lost her. It was his price for being a demigod. I understood him, I really did, but he could be nice sometimes. I sighed and asked him,
" What do you want, Dex?" He'd started to reply when Chiron called every camper to the main place. We went our separate ways and reached there. It turned out that the new boy, who was named Zake, had been claimed. The symbol on top of his head said it all. Athena. Goddess of wisdom. He seemed a bit freaked out about this all but why wouldn't he be? Everyone has been at least once in their life. Chiron calmed him down a bit and spoke to him in low tones.
Suddenly someone came running towards them. Towards Chiron. It wasn't an unknown somebody though, it was Rachel Dare. The Oracle. Her red hair flew behind her as she ran on her swift feet towards us. By the time she reached Chiron she was panting. I couldn't hear complete sentences but I'm pretty sure I heard some words in between, " Quest -Zake - Willow - Dex '' I think I heard my name as well, but I really must have misheard. Abruptly she stopped speaking and switched into Oracle mode. That's what I called it at least. Her eyes turned freakish and her voice was deep and ancient. It was the first time I'd ever heard the oracle speak in person. It was creepy, I had to admit. Rachel or rather, the oracle spoke in her smoky voice,
Demigods afar, clash at fate
Together must prevail, the 8 shall they
To the one who creates the dreams in sleep
They shall dwell to the land in need.
After that Rachel seemed to come back but instantly passed out into Chirons hands. After a moment of silence the campers burst into noise,
"What was that?"
"Is Rachel okay?"
"What does that mean?"
Chiron silenced them all with a gesture of his hand.
" Now, Now, we all know what this is" he said and paused. Looking at Rachel and her passed out form, he picked her up. Then he looked right at me, Dex and Zake.
" A Prophecy. It's time for a quest."
