"How many times will you silence yourself for others?"
Alex's POV

Tonight is not how I wanted to spend my night. But unfortunately I have to be here at this awkward dinner.

I only came here for my mom, I wasn't going to let her come on her own. So, now here I am sitting across from the man that "wants" to make amends.

I've barely touched the food, and barely talked in the conversations that's been happening for twenty minutes.

I've been completely zoned out during this dinner. I start to listen in the conversation since, I will be here majority of my night.

"It's so nice to finally meet you all, I've heard plenty of things." Ms. Blackwell says, she's the wife. Unfortunately I had to get stuck with my fathers last name.

"It's nice to meet you too." My mom says, with a smile.

As I was about to speak, my phone vibrates. Looking down at my phone, I see that Melody has texted me:

Melody's message: hey, just reminding you there's only 1 more day left until we meet again.

Alex's message: hey, one more day to go and we meet at La Cafe. What are you doing right now?

Melody's message: I'm sitting on my bed, waiting for my old friends. Hbu?

Alex's message: Trying to hold my composure at this dinner table. I'll explain everything later.

Melody's message: I know but haters gonna hate lol. ;)

Alex's message: Lol, Of course they are, I'll text you later, Mel.

Melody's message: Ok, text you later.

Laughing quietly I put my phone down, thinking about Mel. Only she would know how to make me laugh-

"Son, what's so funny?" My dad says, trying to start a conversation with me.

"Nothing much, I was just scrolling on Instagram." I say as I began to look down at my phone again.

"Your mom told me, you've been in boston. How's it going for you?" My dad says again.

"It's been great, I've been making a living there." I say.

"Do you need any help or do you need me to supply for you?" My dad says almost with a cocky tone.

"No, I can support myself, I've been doing that for the last five years. I believe I'm doing very well." I say annoyed

"Alex, if you would like to get anything off of your chest you can do so now, I want to fix our bond. I know it's been a while." My dad says sounding sincere.

"A bond like this can't be fixed, do you any idea the pain you caused us. You don't even acknowledge it, let alone apologize for it." I say calmly.

"I know what I've caused but it's all in the past now. I figured we could move past it. Start a new slate." He says.

"Everything is the past for you, no wonder why you asked us not to say a word to your new wife here." I say remaining calm.
