Upon her words, Sarah smiled. "That means a lot. Thank you Doctor Shepherd," she said, accepting the hug, wrapping her arms around the neurosurgeon tightly.
"Call me Amelia," Amelia insisted.
After exchanging numbers, they walked into Carina's office. Unlike usual, Carina was there with her boss, Miranda Bailey. Carina looked worried sick, and Bailey was there comforting her. They saw the two enter, and continued their conversation.
"Go home Doctor DeLuca," Bailey instructed, and Carina frowned.
"Go home? I can't, I have patients," She protested, but Bailey shook her head. "I've reassigned them to Doctor Wilson. Consider this her trial run as an attending. You're too distracted and worried to be working right now. Go home and take care of yourself, Carina," She demanded gently, putting her hand on Carina's shoulder.
Carina's eyes filled with tears and she nodded. With a sniffle, Carina picked up her purse, grabbed her things and took Sarah's hand in her own.
"Thank you Doctor Bailey," Carina replied sincerely, and they left. Sarah looked up at her foster mamma in confusion. "Are you okay? Did something happen?" She asked, and Carina looked at her foster daughter as they waited for the elevator to come.
"Maya got called to the big fire. It's now a five alarm," she explained, and with that, Sarah nodded, understanding the emotions now. Carina was worried for her girlfriend.

Captain Maya Bishop-DeLuca knew death. She'd seen it time and time again and all the things that came with it; the desperation, the shock, the guilt, the silence that snakes its way into everyone's minds. She could feel that death was looming, its claws ready to strike at a moment's notice, ready to take a life. There was something about this fire and this call that made her shiver as she could feel the heaviness in the air.
Death was here... and it was her job to outwit it. It would be a difficult task, and Maya knew it. She adjusted her captain's helmet as Jack drove, tires squealing as he made a sharp turn. The black smoke in the air was a foreboding sign, drawing them closer.
Years prior, her adrenaline would have made her giddy. These calls were like a challenge for her, an accomplishment awaiting to be achieved. But now, as a mother and a wife, she felt her heart skip a beat. Maya closed her eyes as she breathed deeply. In, and out. Focus only on the task at hand.
She felt her brain clear and relief deep into her as she narrowed her focus. Her tablet buzzed, and she looked down to see the necessary information for the call arriving. The blonde turned on her microphone, clearing her throat.
"Alright team, here's what we know!" Maya began, reading out the text on the screen. A multi storied warehouse, occupants inside, fire moving quickly. It was starting to catch on the bushes outside, which meant that they needed to establish a perimeter to prevent a forest fire, fast.
hear the team communicating with themselves as they did their jobs. As the flames licked the warehouse, the crackling sounds grew louder. The fire taunted them, calling out to them. Almost inviting them to come in. The first victim was brought out, gasping as she was unloaded. Travis worked quickly in introducing himself as Vic whipped out her tools. She clapped Dean on the arm in affection, and Dean did the same before rushing back into the house.
Another car screeched to a half in front of the warehouse, and out hopped battalion chief, Natasha Ross. Being ex-military, Natasha Ross carried herself with such calmness and confidence that made her incredibly intimidating.
She strode over to nineteen quickly, instructing that she now was in charge of the scene, and Maya was to go in with Andy, who had just brought another victim out. Maya nodded, clicking her helmet on and taking one last deep breath before meeting up with Andy.
