Goldenstreak backed up as quickly as possible to avoid being burned by the leaping flames. She bumped into Leopardclaw.
"What?" Leopardclaw asked.
"The fire is blocking the entrance!" Goldenstreak responded. Leopardclaw's eyes widened and she backed out. Goldenstreak picked up her kits and backed out of the entrance. Leopardclaw picked up her own kits. Goldenstreak could barely see though the through the thick smoke. She rested her tail on Leopardclaw's shoulder in order to not be separated. She led the way to the elders' den, which was on the far side of camp, farther from the fire. Goldenstreak pushed into the den, which had much cleaner air and placed her kits on the floor. Leopardclaw put her own kits down.
"What should we do?" She asked, fear in her eyes.
"We have to get out of here! I'm not sure how much longer the kits can take it!" Goldenstreak replied, gazing at her kits who coughed and choked. Leopardclaw looked at her own kits.
"I'm going to follow you." Leopardclaw said. Goldenstreak nodded and picked up her kits. She waited for Leopardclaw to get her own kits, then Goldenstreak led the way. She was hit by a cloud of smoke. Goldenstreak's eyes watered but she kept going. Her kits whimpered. Goldenstreak tried to get back to the entrance. She pushed through the bushes. The flames blocked her path. Goldenstreak gulped and jumped over the flames. The flames lapped at her fur. Goldenstreak landed in a safe spot and was joined by Leopardclaw. The fire roared around them.
"That way!" Goldenstreak yowled to Leopardclaw. She gestured to a small path that wasn't being burned yet. Leopardclaw nodded and they headed for the safe area. Goldensteak and Leopardclaw kept going, the flames quickly covering the path. Goldenstreak and Leopardclaw rushed to keep ahead of the flames right on their trail. Goldenstreak saw the hills between flames. She started to run, in regular mode. Leopardclaw followed. They broke away from the fire and ran into the hills. Goldenstreak only stopped when they got to the top of a hill. Then she looked back at the burning trees.
