Request: the wife and the daughter try to comfort Mason Mount after he lost FA Cup final.

Mason had just gone through a very rough day. He had lost the FA Cup final and her heart was breaking for him, even though she knew it couldn't possibly be compared to what he must be feeling.

He had barely looked up to the stands after the match, making their daughter wonder why daddy didn't wave to her as he promised. She had tried to make their little one understand that daddy did not win the trophy and he was feeling upset, and that fact had made their daughter pout her lips for the rest of the evening until they got home.

Mason came home a few hours later. It was way past their daughter's bedtime, but she was still wide awake. Mummy had struggled to keep her still in her bed. But she'd wanted to wait for dad to get home. She was determined to make her dad feel better. Mummy had ended up talking to her about how they could help to cheer daddy up; they needed to be calm and gentle when they saw daddy later, give him kisses and hugs, etcetera.

She ran to her daddy as soon as mummy opened the bedroom door for her. Mason, who was sitting alone on the bed, immediately looked up, quickly wiped off all the tired and disappointed look on his face, mouth twitching upright when he saw his little bundle of joy spreading her arms out. Mason picked her up and those little arms of hers clung tightly around his neck.

"Hello, princess. Why haven't you gone to bed?" Mason gently asked as he sat her down on his thigh. Mummy had entered the room too, sitting beside Mason and wrapping her arm around his back.

"She insisted on waiting for daddy to come home," Mummy answered, her attention was also on their little princess. "Wanted to give Daddy a good night kiss, right, sweetheart?"

"Aaaww, thank you, sweetheart. Do you want me to tuck you in?"

"It's okay. Mummy can tuck me in. You can get some rest."

Her answer made Mason slightly frown. It warmed his heart knowing that their daughter wanted him to take a rest, but it broke his heart knowing that she understood he was upset because he'd lost. She probably had gotten confused why everyone on their stands were quiet and not cheering, why daddy's head was hung low when he received the medal. It had been her first time in a long time to go to a stadium and watch a match, probably felt like a new experience for her, and she couldn't go home feeling happy. He felt guilty.

Mason had promised her a trophy and he had failed to keep the promise. There was no other worse feeling than letting his daughter down.

"Well, I have a better idea. We can sleep together tonight. How does that sound?" Mason turned his gaze from his daughter to his wife, smiling as he saw them nod. His smile faltered a little bit when he saw his wife's tired eyes staring back at him; he knew he had disappointed her too.

"Daddy?" The little princess' voice interrupted, making both of her parents gaze at her.

"You can just try again, daddy," she said softly yet so surely with her cute voice. Her innocent face was looking up at him, with her eyes so big and bright. "You always tell me to try again if I can't read the word in my story books. You should try again too to win a trophy."

Mum and Dad's eyes got wider upon hearing her words, wondering where she got the idea to say that. Such simple nice words, but extremely encouraging yet comforting, and it definitely showered her parents' hearts with warmth.

Mason gave his wife a look, silently asking 'did you tell her to say that?'. But by the same surprised look on her face, he understood that mummy also didn't teach her to say that.

"She's right. You can just try again, dad," she shrugged, staring back at Mason again so lovingly as her arms gently rubbed her husband's back. "You always tell me that too when my cooking is too salty or got a little burnt." She let out a small giggle as she rested her head on Mason's shoulder. She could immediately feel Mason relaxed a little bit more under her touch.

"It's okay, daddy. We can still go to the ice cream store even if you've lost."

They burst into chuckles, remembering that earlier in the day, Mason had promised to take her to her favorite ice cream store to celebrate. That one, Mason still definitely could fulfill, even though he didn't actually win.

"Try again, huh?" Mason stared at their beautiful daughter who was looking up to him. His hand went to fix her messy bangs and put it out of her eyesight. "You're one hundred percent right, baby. I'm so sorry I didn't win today. But like you said, I should just try again. Thank you, princess."

Dad's words sounded so reassuring and calming to her, so she responded with her biggest smile as she leaned into Mason's shoulder.

Mason pulled them into one big hug, the two people he loved the most in the whole world. He was ashamed because he couldn't make them proud today. He'd been in despair, but feeling the unconditional love and support from them, now he felt inspired and motivated more than ever. He still got one more final to play, one more chance to make them proud.

So before he got onto the pitch in the Champion League's final, he told himself that he needed to keep his promises and win it this time.

He thought that winning it was the best feeling ever, listening to the crowd cheering and all of his teammates screaming. He knew he was wrong when he saw his little princess run onto the pitch, arms spreading wide, with the biggest smile plastered on her face as she squealed out of happiness. Tears of joy slipped his eyes when he wrapped his arms around her, and the warmth of his wife's arms followed soon after.

In the end, he made both of them proud.
