Surveying the damage from several feet in the air, The Doctor felt a mix of emotions. On one hand, it was brilliant that Emma had succeeded in destroying Shub Niggurath and saving the world, but the Doctor felt a genuine sadness that she'd had to sacrifice herself. Plus the destruction of the great city of the Elder Things was a tremendous blow to the wonders of the Earth.

As the Doctor continued to view the damage from the door of the TARDIS, a voice snapped him back to reality

"Doctor!"

The Doctor retreated back into the TARDIS to find the group had gathered around Jerry who had gone into convultions on the floor.

"What's going on?" The Doctor asked "Some sort of epileptic seizure?"
"No" replied King Mob "His brain is unable to cope with the horrors he's witnessed and he's having a mental breakdown"
"But what about the pills he took?" Scully demanded "You said that they'd be enough to stop this from happening!?"
At this, King Mob and the Incredibles looked sheepish and averted their gaze

"What?" Mcclane was now getting angry "What the fuck did you do!?"
"We lied" Robin explained "The pills you took were a placebo."
"Then what about you guys?" Mulder was furious "Aren't you gonna go insane as well?"
"We're all strong minded enough to withstand the horrors we've witnessed. It's how you become a member of the Invisibles in the first place darling" Fanny explained

"So what the fuck happens now!" Mcclane roared "We just lose our sanity and end up in a mental hospital for our entire lives? Is that it?"

"There is one thing" The Doctor said causing everybody (except Jerry who was still spasming on the floor)

"I could wipe your memory"
"What!" Mulder exclaimed

"It's an old time lord trick-" the Doctor began to explain, but Mulder interrupted him

"Never mind that! You're basically saying that in order to survive this ordeal with our sanity intact, we've gotta forget it ever happened!"
The Doctor nodded "Well I'm afraid it's really the only way. That or you spend the rest of your lives in a mental hospital"
Mulder felt a lump in his throat "But the things we've seen-"
"Are gonna leave us as a drooling mess in a nuthouse!" Mcclane interrupted him "I know it fucking sucks, but I don't wanna live the rest of my life like that!"
Scully nodded "I agree. It's sad and disappointing, but we have no choice. Look at Jerry down there and tell me you don't want to be like that!"
Mulder went silent for several seconds. Then he sighed

"Ok then" he said to the Doctor "Do it"

A few minutes later, it was all over. Mulder, Scully, Mcclane and Jerry had all had their memories of the adventure completely erased and the Doctor dropped them back on earth a few hours after they'd originally left. Although they occasionally had a dream involving strange imagery that none of them could explain, they soon returned to their ordinary lives, not knowing that they'd played a part in an incredible adventure throughout space and time.

After that, the Doctor returned the copy of the Necronomicon to the Abbey of the Rose's library about 5 minutes after they'd originally picked it up so it could be destroyed in the fire that would later break out. Although Reilly had been disappointed that he hadn't been given more time to study the most perfect copy of the Necronomicon ever to exist, he'd none the less concluded that it had to be done.

After the Doctor had returned the copy, he and the Invisibles had said their final goodbyes.

"Are you sure you don't wanna join us Doctor?" asked King Mob "We could really use a Time Lord in our ranks"
"No I'm afraid I've got my own battles to fight" the Doctor explained "But I'm flattered that you'd offer me a place, but nonetheless I've got to decline"
"At any rate, it was absolutely fabulous working with you darling" Fanny told him "We really must do this again sometime"
"Well if I ever get the chance, I'll be sure to pop by and say hello" the Doctor grinned "Now if you'll excuse me, I've got some business to attend to"
A few seconds later, the Doctor stepped back out of the TARDIS and found himself face to face with the Overlords again

"Well that was fast" one of them said "Did you manage to save the universe"
The Doctor nodded "I did. And in fact there's something I wanted to say to all of you"
"What's that?" asked the lead Overlord

"That you used me!" the Doctor fired back "You knew from the beginning that the humans wouldn't be able to handle something as horrific as Shub Niggurath and you withheld it from me!"
The lead Overlord sighed "So you figured it out. Yes we knew that what you were facing off against was Shub Niggurath."
"Then why didn't you intervene!" the Doctor raised his voice which very few people in the company of the Overlords dared to do "You had the ability to stop Shub Niggurath without ever involving innocent people and yet you put several innocent people's lives on the line and nearly drove them insane in the process instead"
"Because we can't interfere with humans-"
"Rubbish!" At this point the Doctor was on a roll "If there's evil in the universe, it must be fought! That's the philosophy I follow and it's saved thousands of lives. You are a race on the level of the Time Lords themselves and yet you choose to allow suffering and tyranny to exist throughout the universe! You aren't worthy of the name Overlord!"

At this the Overlords went silent

"Are you finished?" one of them asked

"I am" The Doctor replied "Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to Hyde Park. So you stay here and think about what I've said"

After the Doctor left, the Overlords talked amongst themselves for many hours. Soon they decided. The Overlords would not stay silent in the background of the universe anymore. They'd be an active race which fought evil and defended good throughout the universe. The only question of course was: Where would they start?
