Chapter Seven: Hero Days
The next two days flew by for me; I had four classes each day, and the rest of my time was dedicated to intense studying, catching up, and trying to complete the new villains’ profiles. I barely slept for four hours each night, and last night I’d only slept for two, though I thankfully only had one early class today. It had ended about an hour ago, and now I stood on top of the college’s basketball gym, decked out as Fallon and trying my best to keep my eyes open.
I lowered myself to the ground and sat Indian-style on the roof, rubbing my bare arms to retain some heat in the cold winter air. It was the beginning of December, and I was beginning to reconsider coming out to the campus in my suit when I could’ve caught a few more hours of sleep at home. I leaned back on the hard roof and relaxed as much as I could, just listening to the people running around and going to classes, and closed my eyes.
It was short-lived; they snapped back open and I turned toward the back of the gym, hearing hushed voices whisper-shouting at one another. I stood and crept quietly to the edge of the roof, and listened to the conversation with my slightly heightened senses, a benefit of being a super.
“That was too close! She could have found out who you are, Zon!” a voice said.
Another quickly retorted, “Nothing was going to happen. I know I slipped up for a second, but I had it under control—.”
“Like hell you did! You need to--.”
A third voice joined in, “Keep your voices down. Look I know he screwed up but give him a break, we all do. He’ll be more careful next time, Ryder, it’s not like she found out.”
I silently moved to the track field, a good distance from the rest of campus, and moved over the bleachers until I could see three supers standing in the center of the grass.
Ryder looked at them, “I get that, Bolt, but this can’t happen again. People can’t find out--.”
“What’s going on here? You’re making quite a racket,” I said, stepping onto the field.
The three heads of Night Ryder, Bolt, and Amazon snapped towards me, stopping there conversation as they looked me over in alarm before realizing I wasn’t a college student. I smirked slightly and looked them over, remembering their powers and personalities. Bolt, an incredibly fast hero, wore a gold and blue suit to match his hair and eyes; he was probably one of the most humorous supers I’d ever met, with his cocky and sweet personality, and I guessed he was a bit of a ladies’ man in his regular life. Amazon, though funny, seemed a bit more responsible, and was probably also popular guy in his daily life, considering he was just as attractive as Bolt with his dark hair and eyes; he had the power to create defensive shields and could move things with his mind, and wore a dark purple suit. I knew that the three of them knew each others’ identities and were good friends in real life, considering how comfortable they were with each other.
As Ryder and Amazon continued to stare at me, Bolt flipped his features to a cocky grin and said, “Well, Lover-boy here,” he pointed at Amazon, “almost asked his girlfriend about something in their personal life, and Ryder completely overreacted and--.”
Hearing Bolt’s statement, Ryder said back, “I did not ‘overreact’, this is important--.”
Amazon looked at him, “Dude, I had it under control--.”
“I was still talking--.”
“Ha, ha, I was talking first--.”
I chuckled to myself and said, “You guys interrupt each other a lot, don’t you? I can’t understand anything you’re saying.”
