"The past is called the past for a reason."

Alex's POV

Waking up I look up to see that I've been sleeping on Melody's shoulder. Slowly getting up from the couch, I go to the bathroom. Looking in the mirror, my eyes are puffy and I have bags under my eyes.

Thinking back on last night, I was rude and bitter to Melody. But I couldn't help it, whenever I go through something rough, I tend to push others away.

Usually when I push people away, they just leave. But Melody is different. She didn't leave, and she didn't take no an answer. I feel more so guilty than nonchalant.

Turning on the sink, I cup my hands with cold water and throw it on my face. I do this to wake myself up, I feel more tired today.

Grabbing my insomnia pills, I take two with the water from the faucet. After taking my pills, I go back to the living to find Melody awake.

Sitting down on the couch, we sit there in silence. Not an awkward silence, but a silence that's timid yet comforting. Making up my mind I decide to speak first.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to act so harshly towards you. I've always been able to push people away, and when I did they would leave. But you didn't, why?" I say sincerely but also with curiosity.

Looking me straight in the eyes, Melody starts to speak...

"It's okay, and as I said before I wouldn't leave you in you're darkest moment. No matter how hurtful and bitter your words can get. I'll still be with you." Melody says, with pure determination.

"I just want you to trust me, like how I trust you, Alex." Melody says, with honesty.

"I do trust you, Mel. It's that some situations are better left alone." I say, cautiously but timidly.

"Cut the bullshit, Alex. You and I both know that whatever happened last week wasn't just any situation. This current situation has you scared, afraid, and paranoid. So just tell me." Melody says

"I'll tell you when I'm ready, but for now I have to tell you something else." I say still cautiously, I don't know how Melody will react.

"What is it?" Melody says with concern and her face expression softening.

"I have to go back home for a week, but I promise I'll text and call you." I say sincerely

"Why? What happened?" Melody says confused.

"I have to be there for my mom right now. And if I'm not there, then I wouldn't forgive myself." I say, trying hard not be vague.

"Ok, but keep your promise. I'll be waiting for your text." Melody says supportively.

"I'll tell you everything when I come back." I say.

"You'll be safe and ok, right?" Melody says.

"Of course I will, but what will you do while I'm gone?" I say.

"Well just as you are doing, going back home for a week. I have some things I need to handle." Melody says.

"Then I guess we both have explaining to do, when we come back to boston. I leave tonight, but whenever we both come back to boston. You know where to meet me." I say getting up from the couch.

"I'm coming with you to the airport. So, let's go." Melody says, getting up and making her way to my room.

"Mel, you have to pack yourself. And, plus my things are already packed up I just have to drive to the airport." I say, smirking.

"Are you trying to get rid of me that quick?" She says, with tears forming in her eyes, I pull her into a hug.

"What, no I would never do that." I say saddened until I Melody started laughing. Pulling myself from the hug, I grab my suitcases saying, "That's not funny, Mel."

"I'm sorry, I just had to." She says laughing as she grabs my last suitcase.

Walking out of my apartment, we both walk to the parking lot. Placing the suitcases in the trunk of my car. I get into the drivers seat, and Mel gets in the passenger seat.

Looking over at her, I notice that her hand is shaking, and her breathing is quickened. Putting my hand hers I say "I'm right here Mel, nothing is going to happen, you're safe."

She closes her eyes, paste out out her breathing. Still holding my hand. "I know, it's just the memories tend to flood. " she says, looking up at me.

"I know, but you're safe." I say kissing her forehead. Pulling on our seatbelts, I start the car and drive to the airport.

35 minutes later...

Once we got to the airport, I check the time to see that my flight was gonna take off in 25 minutes. Before going into, the airport, I grab my suitcase from Melody.

"Don't worry, we'll be reunited with each other on next saturday. And we'll text each other before we go to bed." Melody says, comforting me.

"Ok, see you till then. Text me as soon as you land tomorrow. And I'll do the same." I say kissing my Melody before I go into the airport.

Walking into the airport, I turn my phone on airplane mode, check in with security bag check. After being approved I walk to my flight, show the employee my plane ticket and my passport.

"Please go ahead in, place your bags in the storage holder above your seat, and have a safe flight." The employee says

"Thank you." I say, walking onto the plane. Putting my luggage away, I sit near the window, put my earphones in. And hope that this trip doesn't damage me anymore than it already has.
